Schneider Electric, BRPL deploy India’s first SF6-free smart RMU pilot

Schneider Electric and BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) have deployed India’s first pilot project featuring a sulfur hexafluoride (SF6)-free smart Ring Main Unit (RMU). The pilot will evaluate the performance of SF6-free switchgear under operating conditions while assessing its digital capabilities for urban power distribution. The smart RMU enables real-time monitoring of equipment health, load conditions, fault events and operational status, while supporting faster fault response, remote operation and more efficient maintenance. The project is expected to provide operational experience that will inform future procurement decisions, technical standards and wider deployment of SF6-free technologies.

Oyster commissions 52.8 MW wind project in Gujarat for Jindal Stainless

Oyster Renewable Energy Pvt Ltd has commissioned 52.8 MW of wind generation capacity at Dayapar in Gujarat for Jindal Stainless Limited (JSL), with commercial operation achieved on July 30, 2026. The project represents the second phase of a 99 MW wind project in Gujarat, forming part of a 315.6 MW solar-wind hybrid project comprising 216 MW in Madhya Pradesh and 99 MW in Gujarat. The commissioned phase includes 16 wind turbines with an investment of around Rs 385 crore, while the complete Gujarat wind project involves 30 turbines with a planned investment of Rs 725 crore. Oyster plans to commission the remaining 14 turbines in phases to complete the 99 MW facility.

Exide begins lithium-ion cell sample supplies, targets FY27 commercial revenue

Exide Industries Limited has started supplying customer samples from its lithium-ion cell manufacturing facility in Bengaluru and expects commercial revenue from the business during the current financial year. The Phase 1 facility has an installed capacity of 6 GWh across Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NCM) and Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) chemistries, with all four production lines installed. As of July 31, 2026, the company had invested Rs 4,902 crore in Exide Energy Solutions Limited and approved Rs 1,400 crore in capital expenditure for the current financial year. Exide also plans to expand manufacturing capacity from 6 GWh to 12 GWh in line with market demand.

Six bidders qualify for Gujarat’s Lakadia-A transmission project

PFC Consulting Limited (PFCCL) has qualified six bidders for the initial price bid stage of the Lakadia-A transmission project under the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) route. The qualified bidders are Resonia Limited, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, Dineshchandra R. Agrawal Infracon Private Limited, Dilip Buildcon Limited, Anantgrid Projects One Private Limited and Adani Energy Solutions Limited. The project, estimated at Rs 2,252 crore, forms part of a broader programme to evacuate 14 GW of renewable energy from Gujarat. All transmission assets must be commissioned within 36 months from the effective date of the Transmission Service Agreement (TSA).

GEE Limited receives NPCIL approval to supply nuclear power sector

GEE Limited has received approval from Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) to supply welding consumables and engineering solutions for nuclear power applications. The approval enables the company to participate in India’s regulated nuclear supply chain after meeting NPCIL’s technical, quality and safety requirements. India has set targets to increase installed nuclear power capacity from 8.8 GW to 22.5 GW by 2031 and to 100 GW by 2047. GEE expects the approval to provide access to high-value industrial contracts with specialised qualification requirements.

SECI awards 275 MW of wind projects to Powerica, CESC subsidiary

The Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) has awarded 275 MW of wind power capacity under its tariff-based competitive bidding programme. Powerica Limited secured a 100 MW project in Gujarat, while Purvah Green Power Private Limited, a subsidiary of CESC Limited, won a 175 MW project under SECI’s Tranche-XX auction. Both projects were awarded at a tariff of Rs 3.85 per kWh under 25-year agreements. The awards follow SECI’s recently concluded Tranche-XX auction for 2,000 MW of ISTS-connected wind power projects.

Refex Green Power secures 80 MW SECI wind power project

Reflex Green Power Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Reflex Renewables & Infrastructure Limited, has secured an 80 MW ISTS-connected wind power project from SECI. The project will be developed in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, and will supply power at a tariff of Rs 3.85 per kWh for 25 years. It is scheduled for commissioning within 24 months from the effective date of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). SECI will sign the PPA with Reflex Green Power Limited or its designated special purpose vehicle (SPV).

After green fuels arm, Waaree adds clean mobility subsidiary

Waaree Energies Limited has incorporated WH Clean Mobility Systems Private Limited as a new step-down subsidiary through Waaree Clean Energy Solutions Private Limited. The new company will focus on mobility solutions based on clean fuels and battery technologies and will operate in the hydrogen business segment. It was incorporated on August 4, 2026, and the Certificate of Incorporation was received on August 6, 2026. The company has not yet commenced commercial operations.

Power Grid posts Rs 3,598 crore Q1 profit; revenue rises 2.7%

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) reported consolidated net profit of Rs 3,598 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, compared with Rs 3,630 crore a year earlier. Revenue from operations increased 2.7% year-on-year to Rs 11,497 crore, while EBITDA rose 4.3% to Rs 9,536 crore and EBITDA margin improved to 82.9%. Separately, the company’s Committee of Directors approved an investment of Rs 856.94 crore for reconductoring two 400 kV double-circuit transmission lines with HTLS conductor. The project is scheduled for commissioning within 24 months.

Vikram Solar Q1 profit drops 86% despite 35% revenue growth

Vikram Solar Limited reported an 86% year-on-year decline in standalone net profit to Rs 187.27 million for Q1 FY27, while revenue from operations increased 35% to Rs 15,360.30 million. EBITDA declined to Rs 1.25 billion from Rs 2.44 billion and EBITDA margin fell to 8.13% from 21.48%. The Board approved increasing the proposed wafer and ingot manufacturing capacity at Gangaikondan, Tamil Nadu, from 6 GW to 9 GW. The expanded facility is targeted for commissioning on or before April 2029 with an investment of up to Rs 5,589 crore.

Siemens Energy India posts 68% rise in Q3 FY26 profit

Siemens Energy India Limited reported a 67.8% year-on-year increase in profit after tax to Rs 441 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2026. Revenue from operations rose 39.3% to Rs 2,486 crore, while the profit from operations margin expanded to 21.9%. For the first nine months of FY26, revenue increased 31.1% to Rs 6,791 crore and the order backlog stood at Rs 19,331 crore. Both the Power Transmission and Power Generation businesses recorded higher revenue and operating profit during the quarter.

MTC clears transmission upgrades to meet Mumbai’s 6,500 MW demand by 2031

The Maharashtra Transmission Committee (MTC) has approved a series of transmission infrastructure projects, including Mumbai’s first 400 kV transmission backbone, to support electricity demand projected to reach around 6,500 MW by 2031. The approved works include upgrades at multiple substations, conductor enhancement, protection system improvements and expansion of Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) infrastructure. The committee also approved Rs 165.54 crore for transmission surveillance and emergency restoration infrastructure across Maharashtra. The projects are intended to strengthen grid reliability and improve emergency response capabilities.

JSW Energy completes Rs 1,410 crore buyout of Korba thermal plant

JSW Energy Limited has completed the acquisition of 100% equity in Maruti Clean Coal and Power Limited (MCCPL), adding a 300 MW thermal power plant in Korba, Chhattisgarh. The acquisition, valued at an enterprise value of Rs 1,410 crore, increases JSW Energy’s installed generation capacity to 14,835 MW. MCCPL has a long-term PPA for 195 MW (net) with Rajasthan discoms through PTC India and coal linkage through South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL). JSW Energy now has 32.4 GW of locked-in generation capacity and 29.6 GWh of locked-in energy storage capacity.

Premier Energies posts 53% rise in Q1 FY27 profit, board approves Rs 5,000 crore fundraising

Premier Energies Limited reported a 53.3% year-on-year increase in consolidated profit after tax to Rs 471.9 crore for Q1 FY27, while revenue from operations rose 35% to Rs 2,462.6 crore. The company’s board approved raising up to Rs 5,000 crore through various equity-linked instruments, subject to shareholder approval. During the quarter, Premier Energies manufactured 844 MW of solar cells, 953 MW of solar modules and 570 MVA of transformers. The company also continues expanding manufacturing capacity at Seetharampur and Naidupeta.

Jindal India Power signs term sheet with SANY for 160 MW wind turbines

Jindal India Power Limited has signed a term sheet with SANY Wind Energy India Limited for the supply of 160 MW of Wind Turbine Generators (WTGs). The turbines will be deployed for the company’s 150 MW Round-the-Clock (RTC) renewable energy project in Davanagere, Karnataka. The agreement was signed on August 5, 2026, for the SECI-awarded project. The hybrid project combines wind, solar and battery energy storage to provide round-the-clock renewable power.

CEA notifies Cyber Security Regulations for India’s power sector

The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has notified the Central Electricity Authority (Cyber Security in Power Sector) Regulations, 2026, which will come into force on April 1, 2027. The regulations establish cyber security requirements covering governance, operational technology, information technology, incident reporting, audits, procurement and supply chain security. Covered entities must appoint Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs), establish Information Security Divisions and report cyber security incidents to CSIRT-Power and CERT-In within prescribed timelines. The regulations also require annual audits and procurement of IT and OT equipment from trusted sources.

SECI awards 1.07 GW under RTC-Thermal Mimic renewable power tender

The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has awarded 1,070 MW under its 1,000 MW Round-the-Clock Thermal Mimic (RTC-TM) renewable power tender, around four months after issuing the tender in March 2026. A total of 16 companies participated, with discovered tariffs ranging from Rs 5.25 per kWh to Rs 5.26 per kWh. Juniper Green Energy Limited secured the largest allocation of 300 MW, while six other developers were also awarded projects. Although the tender was floated for 1,000 MW, SECI awarded a total of 1,070 MW.
