India demand crosses 250 GW, solar anchors heatwave response

India’s national power demand crossed 250 GW for the first time this year on April 24, 2026, reaching 2,51,771 MW at 15:45 hrs, and rose further to around 256.1 GW on April 25. Solar generation reached 81,539 MW at 12:15 hrs on April 24, accounting for 33.8% of total generation, before declining to about 57,524 MW at peak demand. At the night peak of 2,40,240 MW, fossil-based generation rose to 79.9%, with hydro increasing to nearly 29 GW to balance demand. Non-fossil share ranged from about 20% at night to 43% during solar peak hours, reflecting a 23-percentage-point variation linked to the duck curve.

US sets preliminary anti-dumping duties on solar imports

The U.S. Department of Commerce has issued preliminary affirmative determinations in anti-dumping duty investigations on solar imports from India, Indonesia, and Laos. Preliminary dumping margins were set at 123.04% for India, 35.17% for Indonesia, and 22.46% for Laos, with combined duties for India reaching about 234%. The measures affect a supply chain that delivered $4.5 billion in solar products to the United States in 2025, with the three countries accounting for nearly two-thirds of imports. Final rulings are scheduled for July 13, 2026, for India and Indonesia, and around September 9, 2026, for Laos, followed by a final injury assessment by October 19, 2026.

NGEL commissions 90 MW at Khavda-II solar project in Gujarat

NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) declared commercial operation of 90 MW from the 1200 MW Khavda-II Solar PV Project in Gujarat, effective 00:00 hours on April 25, 2026. With this addition, NGEL Group’s commercial capacity increased from 10,363.90 MW to 10,453.90 MW. NTPC’s total installed capacity stands at 89,705 MW, with commercial capacity at 88,625 MW. Earlier, 87.50 MW of a 150 MW solar project in Rajasthan achieved commercial operation on April 19, 2026.

Enrich signs contract with NTPC for 290 MWh BESS at Simhadri

Enrich signed a contract with NTPC Limited for a 290 MWh Battery Energy Storage System at Simhadri Thermal Power Station in Andhra Pradesh. The scope includes battery systems, BMS, EMS, SCADA, PCS, inverter-duty transformers, and integration with 33kV switchgear. The project also covers a 400 kVA substation, protection systems, communication infrastructure, and O&M services. The agreement marks Enrich’s entry into the energy storage segment under its EPC business.

GH2 Solar plans 100 MW solar project with BESS in Jodhpur

GH2 Solar announced plans to develop a 100 MW solar project with a 100 MW/60 MWh BESS in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. The project will be set up under the IPP model with an estimated investment of Rs 400 crore to Rs 450 crore. The BESS will be configured in two units of 50 MW/30 MWh each to support round-the-clock renewable supply. The plant is expected to generate around 16 crore units annually, with commissioning subject to regulatory approvals.

Ampvolts plans 17 EV charging hubs for freight corridors

Ampvolts Limited plans to develop 17 high-capacity EV charging hubs across industrial and logistics corridors in Western India in partnership with Cholamandalam Leasing Limited. The network will support Montra Electric RHINO 5538 EV trucks and enable multi-fleet operations along key freight routes. The project is expected to reduce around 650,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. Chargers ranging from 240 KW to 360 KW will be deployed with GB/T and CCS2 compatibility.

In Q4 FY26, the company reported standalone revenue of Rs 75,233 lakhs, up 16.2% YoY.

Quality Power secures Rs 48.3 crore US order for reactors

Quality Power Electrical Equipments Limited secured an international order worth about Rs 48.3 crore for high-voltage reactors for a US data centre project. The contract will be executed over approximately 12 months, with the awarding entity undisclosed due to a non-disclosure agreement. The company stated the transaction is not a related party transaction. It operates across more than 100 countries supplying high-voltage equipment and power quality solutions.

Premier Energies unveils India’s first all-black rooftop module

Premier Energies Limited launched the NeoBlack Series, India’s first all-black G12R DCR solar module, at RenewX in Chennai on April 27, 2026. The modules are rated between 600 Wp and 630 Wp and use TOPCon cell technology with a uniform black finish. The product includes a 12-year warranty and a 30-year power output warranty. BHEL appoints Aruna Gulati as head of solar business division

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited appointed Ms. Aruna Gulati as Head of its Solar Business Division, effective April 25, 2026. She will report to the Director (Industrial Systems and Products) and is based in Bengaluru. Ms. Gulati has 35 years of service at BHEL, having joined on October 21, 1991.
