PGCIL invites bids for 265 MW/530 MWh BESS project in Haryana
Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) has invited bids for the design, supply, erection, testing, commissioning, and operation and maintenance of a 265 MW/530 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Haryana. The project is part of Haryana’s standalone BESS initiative, implemented through Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (UHBVNL), with SJVN Limited as the implementing agency and bid process coordinator. PGCIL is participating in the selection process and has issued the tender to pre-select a contractor, which will execute the project on a Build, Own, Operate basis if PGCIL receives the Letter of Award. The project must be commissioned within 14 months from the date of award.
Amara Raja Infra wins Power Grid contract for Tuticorin GIS expansion
Amara Raja Infra Private Limited has emerged as the successful bidder for a Rs 57.13 crore contract awarded by Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) for the extension of the 400/230 kV Tuticorin-II Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) in Tamil Nadu. Awarded on August 24, 2026, the contract covers a 1×500 MVA, 400/230 kV ICT (7th) and one 230 kV line bay to provide connectivity to IndianOil NTPC Green Energy Private Limited. The scope includes GIS extension works, associated civil works, fire protection systems and terminal connectors. The tender received five responsive and qualified bids.
Hyosung T&D India signs two transmission packages with Bhutan Power Corporation
Hyosung T&D India has signed two project packages with Bhutan Power Corporation Limited (BPC) for transmission infrastructure in Bhutan. The agreements were signed in Thimphu and cover a 400 kV and 66 kV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) substation extension and Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) turnkey execution. The projects expand Hyosung T&D India’s transmission project portfolio in Bhutan and support the country’s power transmission infrastructure. The agreements follow a June 2026 tripartite MoU between BPC, Druk Green Power Corporation Limited (DGPC) and Hyosung Heavy Industries Corporation.
Fujiyama Power approves 2 GWh battery capacity expansion in UP, MP
Fujiyama Power Systems Limited has approved two battery manufacturing capacity expansion projects comprising a new 1 GWh tubular battery facility in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, and an additional 1 GWh of lithium battery capacity at its Ratlam plant in Madhya Pradesh. The company’s Board of Directors approved both initiatives on August 24, 2026. The Hathras facility is expected to replace capacity lost at the company’s Bawal facility following a fire incident in May, while the Ratlam expansion will increase lithium battery manufacturing capacity. The two projects together represent 2 GWh of additional battery capacity.
BHEL wins Rs 514 crore Power Grid transformer contract
Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has emerged as the lowest bidder for a Rs 514.56 crore contract from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) for the supply of 765 kV transformers. Awarded on August 24, 2026, the contract covers 23 units of 500 MVA, 765/400 kV single-phase transformers under PGCIL’s bulk procurement under Lot-7. The scope includes supply of the transformers, excluding insulating oil, along with insulating oil and mandatory spares. The tender received five responsive and qualified bids.
Five bidders qualify for Jam Khambhaliya Jamnagar transmission project
Five companies have qualified to bid for the Common Transmission System for evacuation of power from Lakadia (Phase-II: 7.5 GW), Jam Khambhaliya (Phase-II: 5.5 GW) and Jamnagar (Phase-I: 1 GW) – Part-B project. Adani Energy Solutions Limited, Ceigall India Limited, Dilip Buildcon Limited, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) and Resonia Limited have qualified for the next stage. The project is designed to evacuate a combined 14 GW of power from renewable energy zones (REZ) in Gujarat and transmit it to major load centres in South Gujarat and Maharashtra. The project includes a new 765/400 kV substation near Nasik and high-capacity transmission lines.
WRPC issues corrective measures after 8,963 MW Khavda grid trip
The Western Regional Power Committee (WRPC) has mandated corrective measures covering data logging, inverter controls, restoration procedures and communication protocols following the May 13, 2026 grid disturbance at the Khavda Renewable Energy Complex in Gujarat. The disturbance resulted in the sudden disconnection of nearly 8,963 MW of renewable generation and caused system frequency to fall to 49.39 Hz. The event involved 17 high-voltage transmission lines operating at 765 kV and 400 kV, which tripped on overvoltage protection. WRPC has directed renewable plants to implement uniform data logging, correct inverter controls and establish procedures for faster restoration.
CG Power launches AMX series AC drives for industrial applications
CG Power and Industrial Solutions Ltd. has launched its AMX Series Drives, a range of general-purpose AC drives designed to control induction and permanent magnet motors across industrial applications. The series is available in power ratings from 1.5 kW to 55 kW, with 3-phase, 230 V to 480 V configurations, and is manufactured at CG’s facility in Mandideep, Madhya Pradesh. The drives combine V/F and field-oriented control (FOC) and include load monitoring, timers, counters and virtual I/Os. AMX Series Drives up to 18.5 kW are now available through CG’s sales and channel network, while products up to 55 kW will be rolled out in the coming quarters.
GE Vernova’s new MV-UPS to buffer AI data centre power swings
GE Vernova Inc. has announced a medium-voltage uninterruptible power supply (MV-UPS) designed to provide continuous power to data centres, AI factories and other energy-intensive facilities. The system is installed on a facility’s medium-voltage network and combines power-conversion technology, controls and integrated energy storage. It is designed to maintain voltage and frequency for critical operations while buffering sudden changes in facility demand before they reach the grid or onsite generation. GE Vernova expects to begin shipping MV-UPS systems in mid-2027, with the first project expected to be energised in late 2027.
CERC sets third-year renewable tariff for FY 2026-27
The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) has determined the levellised generic tariffs for small hydro projects, biomass-based power projects, non-fossil fuel-based co-generation, biogas, and refuse-derived fuel (RDF)-based municipal solid waste (MSW) projects for the third year of the current control period. The tariffs cover projects commissioned between August 1, 2026 and March 31, 2027, under the order issued on August 23, 2026 in Petition No. 12/SM/2026 (Suo-Motu). The normative interest rate on loans has been fixed at 10.71%, while interest on working capital has been set at 11.96%. For small hydro projects with a capacity of up to 5 MW in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and the North Eastern states, the levellised tariff has been determined at Rs 6.69 per unit.
Advait Energy secures Rs 134.63 crore EHV transmission contract
Advait Energy Transitions Limited, formerly Advait Infratech Limited, has secured a turnkey contract worth approximately Rs 134.63 crore from Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Co. Ltd. (MPPTCL). The contract covers the design, manufacturing and supply of Emergency Restoration Systems (ERS) for Extra High Voltage (EHV) transmission lines. The order covers ERS suitable for 400 kV, 220 kV and 132 kV voltage classes, along with all necessary accessories, with a contract value of Rs 1,346.25 million inclusive of taxes. The domestic turnkey project has an execution period of 18 months.
SWELECT Energy commissions 10 MW solar plant in Tamil Nadu
ESG Green Energy Private Limited, a subsidiary of SWELECT Energy Systems Limited, has commissioned a 10 MW solar power plant in Tiruvannamalai district, Tamil Nadu. The project, located at Nedumpirai Village in Cheyyar Taluk, was formally commissioned on August 24, 2026. The plant is interfaced at the 33 kV level with a 110/33 kV pooling substation previously developed by SWELECT Energy Systems under Section 10(1) of the Electricity Act, 2003. Power generated by the plant will be supplied to a group of consumers under a Group Captive Power Sale model using Intra-State Open Access provisions within Tamil Nadu.
L&T wins Middle East order for three BESS projects with 6 GWh capacity
The renewables business vertical of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured an order from a client in the Middle East to develop three Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects with a combined storage capacity of 6 GWh. The scope covers the BESS facilities and associated grid interconnection infrastructure, including pooling substations and underground cabling. Each project will feature a 4-hour BESS configuration to store surplus clean energy generated during off-peak periods and dispatch it during peak demand hours. The systems will use liquid cooling technology to support higher power density, safety and operational longevity.
Suzlon secures 250 MW wind order from Torrent Green Energy
Suzlon Group has secured a 250 MW wind energy order from Torrent Green Energy, marking the sixth collaboration between the two companies and taking their cumulative partnership to more than 1.3 GW across Gujarat, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh. Suzlon will supply 76 S144 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 3.3 MW, along with grid integration and long-term operations and maintenance (AMS) services. The order takes Suzlon’s total new order intake in FY27 to 1.1 GW. Separately, Suzlon Group is planning an investment of approximately Rs 10,000 crore in Andhra Pradesh to develop 1,325 MW of new wind power capacity as part of a broader target to reach 5 GW of wind capacity in the state by 2030.
