Five bidders qualify for Jam Khambhaliya Jamnagar transmission project
Five companies have qualified to bid for the development of the Common Transmission System for evacuation of power from Lakadia (Phase-II: 7.5 GW), Jam Khambhaliya (Phase-II: 5.5 GW) and Jamnagar (Phase-I: 1 GW) – Part-B project.
The shortlisted bidders were announced following the opening of the technical bid responses. Adani Energy Solutions Limited, Ceigall India Limited, Dilip Buildcon Limited, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) and Resonia Limited have qualified for the next stage. All five entities are participating as sole bidders with 100% equity contribution.
The project is designed to evacuate a combined 14 GW of power from renewable energy zones (REZ) in Gujarat and transmit it to major load centres in South Gujarat and Maharashtra. The project’s special purpose vehicle (SPV) is Jam Khambhaliya Jamnagar Power Transmission Limited.
Project scope
The transmission system will cover 7.5 GW from Lakadia Phase-II, 5.5 GW from Jam Khambhaliya Phase-II and 1 GW from Jamnagar Phase-I.
The project will span Gujarat and Maharashtra and includes a new 765/400 kV substation near Nasik along with high-capacity transmission lines.
The planned Nasik substation will comprise 3×1500 MVA at 765 kV and 3×500 MVA at 400/220 kV. The transmission network will also include a 765 kV double-circuit (D/C) line between South Olpad (GIS) and Nasik, and a 400 kV double-circuit line between Nasik and Pimpalgaon (MSETCL).
Next stage
The shortlisting brings PowerGrid and private-sector infrastructure companies into competition for the project. The successful bidder will be selected following the financial bid stage.
The transmission system is intended to enable the evacuation of renewable power generated in Gujarat’s large-scale solar and wind projects to load centres in the state and Maharashtra.
