BHEL wins Rs 514 crore Power Grid transformer contract
Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has emerged as the lowest bidder for a Rs 514.56 crore contract from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) for the supply of 765 kV transformers.
Awarded on August 24, 2026, the contract covers 23 units of 500 MVA, 765/400 kV single-phase transformers under PGCIL’s bulk procurement of 765 kV and 400 kV class transformers and reactors of various capacities under Lot-7.
The scope includes supply of the transformers, excluding insulating oil, along with insulating oil and mandatory spares in accordance with the bid package specification.
Competitive bidding
The tender was issued under a domestic competitive bidding process and received five responsive and qualified bids. The other participating companies included CG Power and Industrial Solutions Limited, GE Vernova T&D India Limited and Siemens Energy India Limited.
The procurement was conducted through a single-stage, two-envelope bidding process on PGCIL’s e-procurement platform.
Transmission network
The transformers will be deployed across multiple projects forming part of PGCIL’s transmission network expansion programme. These include projects being developed under both the regulated tariff mechanism (RTM) and tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) routes.
The bulk procurement is intended to streamline equipment sourcing for upcoming transmission infrastructure requirements across the country.
