Assam’s transmission network set for upgrade with six new projects

Assam Electricity Grid Corporation Limited (AEGCL) has initiated six transmission projects to strengthen the state’s high-voltage network, including new 400 kV and 132 kV substations, a 400 kV transmission corridor and reconductoring works using High Temperature Low Sag (HTLS) conductors. The utility has invited consultants to prepare Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) covering surveys, engineering, environmental studies and financial analysis. The DPRs will support appraisal by lenders such as Power Finance Corporation (PFC) and REC Limited (REC). The selected consultant is required to complete the assignment within 90 days of the Letter of Award.

NEEPCO, GRIDCO sign PPA for Heo, Tato-I and Tato-II hydro projects

North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) and Grid Corporation of Odisha Limited (GRIDCO) have signed a 40-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for electricity from the 240 MW Heo, 186 MW Tato-I and 700 MW Tato-II hydroelectric projects in Arunachal Pradesh. The agreement was signed on June 30, 2026, and covers a combined planned installed capacity of 1,126 MW. The projects have received Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approvals with a combined investment running into thousands of crores. The agreement provides long-term power offtake for GRIDCO from the Commercial Operation Date (COD).

NISE, SEPA sign MoU to strengthen renewable energy collaboration

The National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) and the Sustainability and Energy Practitioners Association (SEPA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in renewable energy research, innovation and capacity building. The partnership covers distributed renewable energy (DRE), solar and hybrid systems, battery energy storage systems (BESS), grid integration, industrial decarbonisation and technical benchmarking. It will also support training programmes, policy studies, pilot projects and knowledge exchange. The collaboration aims to strengthen India’s renewable energy ecosystem in line with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).

Nagaland plans rooftop solar rollout across 550 village council halls

Nagaland has launched a programme to install 3 kW rooftop solar systems on 550 Village Council Halls under the Chief Minister’s Community Solar Partnership Initiative. The initiative will add 1,650 kW of distributed solar capacity across 15 districts and forms part of the Nagaland Solar Mission. The Department of Power has invited bids, with submissions due by July 16, 2026, and technical bids opening on July 17, 2026. The state is also offering subsidies that can cover up to 96% of project costs for eligible residential systems.

Coal India’s June power sector supplies rise 5.9% to 51.44 MT

Coal India Limited (CIL) supplied 51.44 million tonnes (MTs) of coal to the power sector in June FY 2026-27, up 5.9% from 48.57 MTs a year earlier. Total coal supplies rose 7.5% to 65.8 MTs, while non-regulated sector supplies increased 14.8% to 14.50 MTs. During Q1 FY 2026-27, CIL reduced pithead stock by 28.3 MTs and increased first-mile connectivity (FMC) dispatches by 23% to 66.76 MT. The company is targeting production of 815 MTs and coal supplies of 850 MTs during FY 2026-27.

Crompton Greaves wins Rs 30 crore MSEDCL solar pump order

Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Limited has secured a Rs 29.77 crore contract from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) for 1,397 off-grid DC solar photovoltaic water pumping systems. The project will be executed under the Mukhyamantri Saur Krushi Pump Yojana (MTSKPY)/Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM-B) scheme. The scope includes design, supply, installation, commissioning and five years of maintenance and remote monitoring. Installation is to be completed within 60 days of the Notice to Proceed or work order.

GK Energy secures Rs 48 crore rooftop solar order

GK Energy Limited has received an order worth Rs 48.02 crore, inclusive of GST, for 10 MW of rooftop solar projects across 1,150 locations in India. The project has been awarded by a distribution company and is scheduled for completion within 90 days. The company confirmed the contract is domestic in nature and not a related-party transaction. GK Energy also reported FY2025-26 revenue of Rs 1,532.54 crore and PAT of Rs 201.27 crore.

Adar Poonawalla Family Office invests Rs 700 crore in Inox Clean

Inox Clean Energy Limited has secured a Rs 700 crore investment from the Adar Poonawalla Family Office through Rising Sun Holdings Pvt. Ltd. The investment values the company at Rs 70,000 crore and follows an earlier investment of approximately Rs 800 crore by California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS). The company said the capital will support renewable energy projects, manufacturing expansion and future acquisitions. Inox Clean has completed 10 strategic acquisitions over the past 10 months.

Serentica Renewables commissions 3 GW renewable energy capacity

Serentica Renewables has commissioned 3 GW of renewable energy capacity within 26 months of its first project. The portfolio includes more than 500 MW of wind capacity across Maharashtra and Karnataka and is expected to generate around 6 billion units annually. The company estimates the portfolio will avoid nearly 5.6 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year. Serentica is also developing an additional 3 GW of renewable energy and energy storage capacity.

IEX Q1 electricity trade rises 16% to 37.5 BU amid higher power demand

Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) traded 37,534 MU (37.5 BU) of electricity during Q1 FY 2026-27, up 15.9% year on year. India’s energy consumption reached 485.4 BUs during the quarter, while peak power demand touched a record 270.8 GW in May 2026. June electricity trading increased 12.5% to 12,210 MU, supported by higher summer demand. The Real-Time Market (RTM) recorded the highest quarterly growth, increasing 23.5% to 16,019 MU.

ACME to supply 405 kTPA green ammonia to Japan’s IHI Corporation

ACME Cleantech Solutions Private Limited has signed long-term agreements with Japan’s IHI Corporation for 405,000 tonnes per annum of green ammonia and Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company, Inc. (MGC) for 100,000 tonnes per annum of green methanol. The agreements were signed under the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) and are supported by Japan’s Contract for Difference (CfD) scheme. ACME has also been awarded 370,000 tonnes per annum production capacity under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Programme. The agreements strengthen export opportunities for India’s green hydrogen sector.

STEAG Energy wins Rs 1,437 crore O&M contract from Vedanta

STEAG Energy Services (India) Private Limited has secured a five-year operations and maintenance contract worth Rs 1,437.17 crore from Vedanta Aluminium Metal Limited. The contract covers a 1,215 MW captive power plant comprising nine generating units of 135 MW each. The agreement will commence on August 1, 2026. The company confirmed the order is domestic in nature and not a related-party transaction.

India lacks equipment for continuous radioactivity monitoring, Adani tells EAC

The Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) has recommended replacing continuous monitoring of radioactivity and heavy metals with annual third-party testing for Adani Power Limited’s 600 MW Raigarh Thermal Power Plant in Chhattisgarh. The recommendation follows the company’s submission that commercially available continuous monitoring instruments are not available in India. Under the revised condition, annual testing will be carried out through National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL)-accredited laboratories. The results will be submitted with six-monthly environmental clearance compliance reports.

Adani, Azure, ACME plants found non-compliant after grid disturbances

The Northern Regional Load Despatch Centre (NRLDC) identified multiple renewable energy plants that failed to comply with Low Voltage Ride Through (LVRT) and High Voltage Ride Through (HVRT) requirements during grid disturbances in April and May 2026. Projects operated by companies including Adani, Azure Power, ACME, NTPC, ReNew, SB Energy, Avaada and AMP Energy were among those identified. NRLDC also reported missing phasor measurement unit (PMU) data from more than 30 renewable plants and delayed Root Cause Analysis (RCA) submissions. The Renewable Energy Sub-Committee of the Northern Regional Power Committee (NRPC) directed developers to strengthen compliance and submit pending reports.

Tata Power Renewable commissions 100.8 MW Jewali wind project in Maharashtra

Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) has commissioned the 100.8 MW Jewali Wind Project in Maharashtra. The project comprises 28 SG 3.6-145 wind turbine generators and will supply electricity to Tata Power’s Mumbai distribution network. It is expected to generate around 299 million units annually and offset nearly 245 million kg of carbon dioxide emissions each year. Following commissioning, TPREL’s operational wind capacity has crossed 1.3 GW and its renewable utility capacity has reached 11.6 GW.

Quality Power subsidiary wins FACTS order from Japan

Quality Power Electrical Equipments Limited said its material step-down subsidiary, ENDOKS ENERJI ANONIM SIRKETI, has secured a FACTS equipment order for a project in Japan. The contract is valued at approximately Rs 40.9 crore, excluding taxes, and is scheduled for execution by approximately December 2026. The customer has not been disclosed due to a non-disclosure agreement. The company confirmed the transaction is not a related-party transaction.

NTPC REL signs PPA with PTC India for 1,200 MW solar power

NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with PTC India Limited for the sale of 1,200 MW of solar power under a bilateral arrangement.
