PSPCL awards 500 MW standalone BESS capacity to three firms
Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has concluded its auction for 500 MW/1,000 MWh of standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS), with Stockwell Solar, Rama Reflection India, and Ceigall India emerging as the successful bidders.
Stockwell Solar secured 150 MW/300 MWh as the L1 bidder at a tariff of Rs 3.35 lakh/MW/month. Rama Reflection India won 250 MW/500 MWh at Rs 3.44 lakh/MW/month. Ceigall India was awarded 100 MW/200 MWh under the bucket-filling method at the same tariff of Rs 3.44 lakh/MW/month, against its quoted capacity of 500 MW/1,000 MWh.
PSPCL had floated the tender in January 2026 and will sign 12-year Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreements (BESPAs) with all three developers.
Under the tender conditions, the BESS projects are required to remain available for two operational cycles per day with a minimum guaranteed monthly availability of 95%. PSPCL will retain control over charging and discharging schedules, while the systems will draw and inject power through the PSPCL/PSTCL network.
The utility will provide land to developers either on a lease basis or through right-to-use arrangements. The tender also specifies that the energy management system software is to be developed indigenously within India, while the use of refurbished or second-hand battery cells is not permitted.
In addition, noise emissions from the BESS installations are capped at 80 decibels. Developers will also be required to install sound barriers in view of possible future residential development near project sites.
