Salasar Techno begins execution of Rs 134 crore PGCIL substation order in Puducherry
Salasar Techno Engineering Ltd has begun execution of a Rs 134.51 crore substation package awarded by Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) under its consultancy services to the Electricity Department, Puducherry (PED).
The 110 kV air-insulated substation (AIS) package covers multiple locations across the Union Territory and includes construction of two new substations, augmentation of an existing substation and deployment of additional transformation capacity.
The project is expected to strengthen the interconnection of substations across Puducherry and improve power supply reliability as electricity demand rises with urbanisation and economic development.
Project scope
The project involves the design, engineering, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of two new 110/22 kV substations at Thirubuvanai and Thavalakuppam.
Salasar will also shift released transformers from the Thirubuvanai substation to the Thethampakkam and Kalapet substations, including their erection, testing and commissioning. The package further includes augmentation works at the existing 110/22 kV Villianur substation.
The company will supply five 25 MVA, 110/22 kV outdoor power transformers. Together, the transformers will add 125 MVA of transformation capacity to the regional grid.
Grid impact
Once commissioned, the interconnected substations are expected to create a grid pooling effect and strengthen supply reliability and resilience across Puducherry.
The project covers Thavalakuppam, Thirubuvanai, Thethampakkam, Kalapet and Villianur and is expected to improve power quality for consumers in these areas while providing capacity for future load growth. The redeployment of released transformers will also allow existing grid assets to be used more efficiently rather than retired.
The project forms part of the Union Territory’s Smart City Mission.

Earlier order
Salasar Techno Engineering secured a Rs 68.67 crore Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) Package SS-145 from PGCIL for establishing a 110/22 kV GIS substation at Lawspet, Puducherry, under consultancy services to PED. The project, awarded in December 2025, covers design, engineering, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of the GIS substation along with associated civil, structural and electrical works.
Separately, Salasar Techno Engineering is targeting around 20% revenue growth in FY27, with revenue expected to reach about Rs 1,800 crore. The company reported revenue of Rs 1,511.89 crore in FY26, compared with Rs 1,454.69 crore in the preceding year, while profit declined to Rs 17.21 crore from Rs 19.10 crore.
