Bhutan, World Bank sign $515 million deal for Dorjilung hydro project

The Royal Government of Bhutan and the World Bank have signed financing agreements worth $515 million for the 1,125 MW Dorjilung Hydroelectric Power Project on the Kurichhu River. The project, with an estimated total cost of $1.7 billion, will be Bhutan’s largest hydropower project under a PPP model. It is expected to generate over 4,500 GWh annually, with nearly 80% of output earmarked for supply to India. The structure limits Bhutan’s direct credit exposure to $150 million and is expected to mobilise an additional $900 million in private investment.

NHPC declares CoD of 250 MW Unit 4 at Subansiri Lower project

NHPC Limited has declared the Commercial Operation Date of Unit 4 (250 MW) of the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project with effect from 00:00 hours on May 8, 2026. The project has a total installed capacity of 2,000 MW (8×250 MW). With four units now operational, commissioned capacity has reached 1,000 MW. The remaining units will be commissioned in phases, with timelines to be announced separately.

IEX April volume rises 16.6% to 12,341 MU on RTM surge

Indian Energy Exchange reported a 16.6% YoY increase in traded electricity volume to 12,341 MU in April 2026. Growth was driven by the Real-Time Market, which recorded 5,069 MU, up 30.2% YoY. Peak demand reached 256 GW, while total energy consumption stood at 154 BUs, up 4% YoY. The Day-Ahead Market traded 4,624 MU at an average price of Rs 5.26 per unit.

L&T Q4 profit dips 3.1% to Rs 5,326 crore; revenue up 11.3%

Larsen & Toubro reported a 3.1% YoY decline in Q4 FY26 net profit to Rs 5,326 crore, while revenue rose 11.3% to Rs 82,762.2 crore. EBITDA margin declined to 10.4% from 11% a year earlier. For FY26, order inflows rose 22% YoY to Rs 4,35,590 crore, with international orders accounting for 58%. Reported PAT stood at Rs 16,084 crore after a one-time provision of Rs 1,155 crore.

Coal India commissions 100 MW solar plant in Gujarat

Coal India Limited has commissioned a 100 MW solar power plant in Gujarat, declared commercially operational from March 31, 2026. The project is located in Banaskantha district and received certification from GEDA on May 4, 2026. The commissioning aligns with CIL’s strategy to diversify into renewable energy. The company reported a 12% YoY decline in FY26 net profit to Rs 31,071 crore.

KEC International wins Rs 1,002 crore orders across segments

KEC International Ltd. has secured new orders worth Rs 1,002 crore across Transmission and Distribution, Renewables, Transportation, and Cables segments. The T&D segment includes a ±500 kV HVDC transmission line project in Western India. The company also secured a wind power project exceeding 100 MW in Southern India. Additional orders include railway signalling and cabling works across domestic and international markets.

Voltamp Transformers reported record FY26 revenue of Rs 2,153.69 crore, up 11.34% YoY. Operating profit declined 3% to Rs 344.21 crore, with EBITDA margin falling to 16.50%. Q4 operating profit declined 30% YoY due to provisions and cost pressures. The company began FY27 with an order backlog of about Rs 1,200 crore.

KP Group installs India’s first 4.2 MW Senvion wind turbine

KP Group has installed a 4.2 MW wind turbine manufactured by Senvion India in South Gujarat. The turbine has a 160-metre rotor diameter and 140-metre hub height, designed for low-to-medium wind regimes. It features over 85% localisation and was included in the ALMM in December 2025. The installation reflects a shift towards higher-capacity wind technology.

Israel’s largest solar project secures financing, construction to begin

Israel has finalised financing for a 265 MW solar project near Dimona in the Negev Desert. The project will be developed by EDF Renewables under a PPP model with a 25-year concession period. It will supply electricity at below NIS 0.065 per kWh, the lowest tariff recorded in the country. Construction is expected to begin immediately, with commissioning targeted within two years.

Vikran Engineering commissions 5 MW solar plant, forms new RE arm

Vikran Engineering Limited has commissioned a 5 MW solar plant in Maharashtra under the PM-KUSUM scheme. The plant is expected to generate around 10,000 MWh annually and avoid about 8,200 tonnes of CO2 emissions. The company has also incorporated Vikran Renewable Private Limited as a wholly-owned subsidiary with an authorised capital of Rs 15,00,000. The move supports its transition towards renewable energy infrastructure.
