KP Group installs India’s first 4.2 MW Senvion wind turbine

KP Group has installed India’s first 4.2 MW wind turbine generator (4.2M160) manufactured by Senvion India in South Gujarat, marking a step forward in the deployment of advanced wind technology under the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

The installation uses Senvion’s 4XM platform, designed for Indian wind conditions. The 4.2M160 turbine has a 160-metre rotor diameter and a 140-metre hub height, enabling higher energy capture in low-to-medium wind regimes. The larger swept area and control systems are intended to improve generation output and operational efficiency.

The 4XM platform features a modular design aimed at easing transportation and reducing installation timelines, while supporting maintenance and operational reliability. The turbine has over 85% localisation and was included in the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) in December 2025.

Faruk Patel, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of KP Group, stated that the installation reflects the company’s focus on adopting higher-capacity turbine technology to improve generation efficiency and lifecycle performance.

KP Group, established in 1994, operates across renewable energy, infrastructure, and related sectors, with a portfolio spanning wind, solar, hybrid projects, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and green hydrogen.
