Coal India commissions 100 MW solar plant in Gujarat

Coal India Limited (CIL) has commissioned a 100 MW solar power plant in Gujarat, marking a step in its expansion into renewable energy.

The company received the commissioning certificate from the Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA) on May 4, 2026, for the project located at Village Bhadramali in Deesa taluka of Banaskantha district. The plant has been declared commercially operational with effect from March 31, 2026.

The commissioning forms part of CIL’s strategy to diversify its energy portfolio beyond coal and increase its presence in clean energy. The company continues to remain a key contributor to India’s coal-based power supply while gradually expanding its renewable capacity.

Coal India reported a 12% year-on-year decline in consolidated net profit for FY 2025-26, at Rs 31,071 crore compared to Rs 35,450 crore in the previous fiscal. The decline was driven by a one-time provision for executive pay revision and higher state levies, even as revenue from operations remained largely unchanged at Rs 1,68,400 crore.
