MoD approves 250 MW solar-plus-storage project in Sitapur
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved a 250 MW Solar Power Project with Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Sitapur (Ex-Cantonment), Uttar Pradesh, on around 850 acres of vacant defence land. NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL) will develop the project through a competitive bid process in coordination with Integrated Headquarters (IHQ) of MoD (Army) and the Directorate General Defence Estates (DGDE). Electricity generated from the project will be supplied to defence units across Uttar Pradesh. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) said the project is expected to strengthen energy security and reduce expenditure on conventional grid power procurement.
Quality Power signs term sheet to acquire WSIL for Rs 315 crore
Quality Power Electrical Equipments Limited has signed a term sheet to acquire 100% equity stake in Winwin Speciality Insulators Limited (WSIL) for an enterprise value of around Rs 315 crore. WSIL operates an insulator manufacturing facility at the Atchutapuram Special Economic Zone (SEZ) near Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, manufacturing ceramic insulators up to 1200 kV and polymeric insulators up to 400 kV. The acquisition includes the WS Insulators brand, established in 1961, with supplies across around 55 countries. The transaction is expected to be completed within three months, subject to approvals and due diligence.
IntelliSmart acquisition to make Adani Energy Solutions India’s biggest smart metering platform
Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL) has signed an agreement to acquire a 100% equity stake in IntelliSmart Infrastructure Private Limited for Rs 3,050 crore. The acquisition includes redemption of optionally convertible debentures held by the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) and is expected to make AESL the country’s largest smart metering platform with over 4.7 crore smart meters. IntelliSmart currently has a portfolio of more than 2.2 crore meters across multiple states. Completion of the transaction is subject to customary approvals, including approval from the Competition Commission of India (CCI).
Marsons secures Rs 9.48 crore transformer repair order from WBSETCL
Marsons Limited has received a work order worth Rs 9,48,36,600 from West Bengal State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (WBSETCL) for repair, inspection, and testing of 50 MVA, 132/33 kV power transformers, including transportation. The execution timeline for the contract is between six and 12 months. WBSETCL is responsible for power transmission infrastructure in West Bengal. Marsons stated that the contract forms part of its core power transmission equipment services business.
Juniper Green commissions 305 MWp renewable capacity in Gujarat
Juniper Green Energy has commissioned 305 MWp of renewable energy capacity across solar and wind projects in Gujarat under power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL). The commissioned portfolio includes 183 MWp of solar capacity and 122 MW of wind capacity across Surendranagar, Aravalli, Devbhumi Dwarka, and adjoining districts. The company stated that several solar projects achieved commercial operation ahead of their scheduled commercial operation dates (SCOD). The projects were developed through Juniper Green Energy subsidiaries.
Coal Exchange Rules, 2026 notified to enable coal trading platforms
The Ministry of Coal has notified the Coal Exchange Rules, 2026, establishing a regulatory framework for coal exchanges in India. The rules designate the Coal Controller Organisation (CCO) as the authority responsible for registration and regulation of coal exchanges. The framework is intended to shift coal marketing towards a competitive “many-to-many” trading model to support transparent price discovery and wider market access. Applicants seeking to establish coal exchanges are required to maintain a minimum net worth of Rs 50 crore.
Meta and CleanMax partner for over 900 MW renewable capacity
Meta Platforms, Inc. and Clean Max Enviro Energy Solutions Limited (CleanMax) have announced a renewable energy partnership in India covering more than 900 MW of capacity. Under the partnership, CleanMax will develop and operate 837 MW of solar and wind projects across Rajasthan and Karnataka, while Meta will purchase 100 per cent of the environmental attributes generated from the projects. CleanMax stated that its contracted renewable energy portfolio reached 5.7 GW in FY 2025-26. The companies said the partnership supports renewable energy procurement for digital and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure growth.
