Foundation stone laid for Rs 25,000 crore coal-to-ammonium nitrate project

The foundation stone for Bharat Coal Gasification & Chemicals Limited’s coal-to-ammonium nitrate project was laid remotely by the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, and Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on June 20, 2026, at Lakhanpur in Jharsuguda district of Odisha. The project aims to produce approximately 0.66 Million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA) of Technical Grade Ammonium Nitrate through coal gasification. It is among India’s first commercial-scale chemical projects based on indigenous Pressurised Fluidised Bed Gasification (PFBG) technology. The project is targeted for commissioning by September 2029.

CG Power emerges L1 for NTPC Telangana transformer package

CG Power and Industrial Solutions Ltd. has emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) for a power transformers package for NTPC Limited’s 3×800 MW Telangana Super Thermal Power Project Stage-II. According to the financial bids opened on June 17, 2026, CG Power quoted Rs 425.26 crore, compared to Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited’s (BHEL) bid of Rs 457.01 crore. The tender covers supply, transportation, installation, testing and commissioning of power transformers, along with plant and equipment, type tests, mandatory spares and related works. The contract award remains subject to NTPC’s technical and commercial evaluation process.

Powertrac signs PPAs for 480 MW solar projects in Gujarat

Powertrac Group has signed power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Ltd (PGVCL) for 480 MW of ground-mounted solar projects under Gujarat’s Distributed Renewable Energy Bilateral Purchase scheme. The company said the projects will require an estimated investment of Rs 2,155 crore and will supply power at a tariff of Rs 2.76 per kWh. The projects will use domestically manufactured Domestic Content Requirement (DCR)-compliant photovoltaic (PV) modules. Power evacuation is planned through the 11 kV feeder-level substation network under the framework being implemented by PGVCL.

Vikram Solar moves NCLAT against insolvency admission order

Vikram Solar Ltd has filed an appeal before the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) challenging an insolvency admission order passed by the Kolkata bench of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT). The case stems from a payment dispute with operational creditor Isitva Steels Private Limited, which claimed outstanding dues of Rs 9.44 crore linked to subcontracting work for an Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation (APGENCO) solar project. The NCLT held on June 12 that the debt qualified as an operational debt and that the amount in default exceeded the statutory threshold. The company said the appellate tribunal is scheduled to hear the matter on June 24.

Tata Motors secures over 3,400 electric commercial vehicle orders

Tata Motors has secured more than 3,400 electric commercial vehicle (eCV) orders across freight, logistics and passenger mobility segments. The order book includes around 2,000 small commercial vehicles (SCVs) and pick-ups, 900 trucks and 500 buses. The vehicles will be deployed across applications such as e-commerce, logistics, FMCG distribution, public transport and heavy-duty industrial operations. Tata Motors said it currently operates more than 3,800 electric buses and more than 17,000 electric SCVs.

PFC subsidiary Bihar Infrapower dissolved after Banka UMPP closure

Power Finance Corporation Limited (PFC) has informed the stock exchanges that its wholly owned subsidiary, Bihar Infrapower Limited, has been struck off from the register of companies by the Registrar of Companies under Section 248 of the Companies Act, 2013. The dissolution follows the closure of the Banka Ultra Mega Power Project (UMPP) in Bihar, for which the subsidiary had been set up as a special purpose vehicle (SPV). Bihar Infrapower Limited was incorporated on June 30, 2015, to hold licences, land and other assets associated with the project. The Ministry of Power had approved the closure of the company on November 27, 2025.

From YEIDA to Sultanpur: UPERC clears Rs 567 crore to strengthen UP’s grid

The Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC) has approved six transmission schemes with a combined estimated cost of Rs 567.21 crore. The projects, approved on June 22, will strengthen the state’s transmission network, improve voltage stability and support rising electricity demand across multiple regions. One key scheme involves augmentation of the 400 kV Sultanpur substation from 945 MVA to 1,445 MVA. Other approvals include a new 132 kV transmission line in Tilhar, a new 220/132 kV substation in Chunar and a 400/220 kV gas insulated substation at Sector-28 in YEIDA.

GERC proposes Rs 1 per unit banking charge for green open access users

The Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC) has issued draft regulations proposing a banking charge of Rs 1.00 per unit for green energy open access consumers from September 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027. The interim rate has been extended through five amendments while the Commission studied the banking framework. Based on data submitted by distribution licensees, GERC calculated a banking charge of Rs 1.06 per unit but proposed a lower rate of Rs 1.00 per unit. The draft also sets a floor of Rs 0.50 per unit and a ceiling of Rs 1.50 per unit.

Five firms qualify for Rajasthan REZ transmission project bidding

Five companies have qualified to participate in the commercial bidding stage for the “Augmentation at Bhadla-III, Ramgarh PS and Kanpur (PG)” interstate transmission project. The qualified firms are Adani Energy Solutions Limited, Ceigall India Limited, Dilip Buildcon Limited, H G Infra Engineering Limited and Power Grid Corporation of India Limited. The project will be implemented through the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) route on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis. It is intended to support evacuation of power from Rajasthan’s Renewable Energy Zones (REZ) under Phase III.

Trom Industries secures 42 MW rooftop solar orders from SBPDCL

Trom Industries Limited has received three purchase orders from South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (SBPDCL) for 42 MW of grid-connected rooftop solar projects under the PM Surya Ghar – Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG-MBY). The projects will be implemented across the Aurangabad, Biharsharif and Bhagalpur circles and will cover 38,561 consumer installations. The orders include 10 MW in Aurangabad, 17 MW in Biharsharif and 15 MW in Bhagalpur. The projects will be executed under the CAPEX plus Renewable Energy Service Company (RESCO) Mode Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) model.

Yash Highvoltage plans Rs 151 crore fund raise for bushing expansion

Yash Highvoltage Limited has approved a preferential issue of equity shares and convertible warrants aggregating up to approximately Rs 151 crore. The proposed fund raise is aimed at expanding the company’s transformer bushing manufacturing capabilities, particularly in the extra-high voltage segment. The issue comprises up to 12,62,131 equity shares and 8,32,177 convertible warrants at an issue price of Rs 721 per security. The company plans to use the proceeds to expand its Resin-Impregnated Paper (RIP) bushing manufacturing facility and brownfield capacity in Oil-Impregnated Paper (OIP) bushings.

Asian Energy Services wins Rs 187.62 crore GSECL EPC contract

Asian Energy Services Limited (AESL) has secured an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract worth Rs 187.62 crore, including Goods and Services Tax (GST), from Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSECL). The contract is for capacity enhancement of the coal handling plant at the Ukai Thermal Power Station in Gujarat. The project marks AESL’s first major project award from a client outside the Coal India ecosystem. The lump-sum EPC contract covers engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of the upgraded coal handling system.

Hindustan Zinc signs MoU to explore green hydrogen for mining

Hindustan Zinc Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Advantek Associates LLP and Aero Eagle Automobiles Private Limited to evaluate the use of green hydrogen and other clean energy solutions across its mining operations. The collaboration is part of the company’s strategy to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2050 or earlier. The partnership will assess the technical and commercial viability of hydrogen-based technologies in mining applications. Areas under review include green hydrogen generation, storage systems, dispensing infrastructure and hydrogen-powered equipment.

NHDC’s 640 MW PSP gets EAC nod; tribal villages to get hospital and solar panels

The Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has recommended environmental clearance for the Indirasagar-Omkareshwar Pumped Storage Project (640 MW) in Madhya Pradesh. The project, to be developed by NHDC Limited, involves an estimated investment of Rs 5,243 crore. It will use the existing Indira Sagar reservoir as the upper reservoir and the Omkareshwar reservoir as the lower reservoir. The project is expected to generate 1,472.58 million units (MU) annually and achieve a cycle efficiency of 76.31%.

MNRE clarifies ALMM List-II exemption process for utility and C&I solar projects

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has issued a clarification allowing utility-scale and commercial & industrial (C&I) solar projects installed before June 1, 2026, to be commissioned while their exemption applications from Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) List-II requirements are under review. The relief applies only to projects that were fully installed before the deadline but could not be commissioned due to valid reasons. MNRE has directed state authorities and DISCOMs not to delay grid connectivity, power wheeling or energy banking solely because the exemption certificate is pending. Eligible projects must be commissioned within one month from June 23, 2026.

Resonia wins Kurnool IV REZ transmission project from Ministry of Power

Resonia Limited has secured the Kurnool IV REZ Power Transmission Limited project from the Ministry of Power. The inter-state transmission system (ISTS) project is aimed at strengthening transmission connectivity between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and facilitating integration of renewable energy from the Kurnool Renewable Energy Zone (REZ). The project is designed to support evacuation of around 3 GW of renewable energy planned under Kurnool IV REZ Phase II. The scope includes the establishment of a 765/400 kV Doma substation and augmentation of the existing Kurnool-IV pooling station.

Kaiga nuclear plant receives first major reactor core component from L&T

Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) has achieved a construction milestone at the Kaiga Units 5 and 6 nuclear power project with the successful unloading of the first End Shield, a key component of the reactor core. Manufactured by Larsen & Toubro (L&T) at its Hazira facility, the End Shield weighs 107 tonnes and measures approximately 9.3 metres in height and width. It is the first major equipment to be installed as part of the reactor core system for the 700 MW Pressurised Heavy Water Reactor (PHWR) units. The milestone follows the First Pour of Concrete (FPC) for Kaiga Units 5 and 6 on March 1, 2026.

India commissions nuclear-grade sodium cell to support Fast Breeder Reactor programme

The Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) has inaugurated the Versatile Deuterated Compounds Production Plant (VDPP) and commissioned a 24 kA Prototype Sodium Cell at the Heavy Water Board Facilities (HWBF) in Vadodara, Gujarat. The facilities were inaugurated and commissioned by Dr. Ajit Kumar Mohanty, Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy and Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission, on June 21, 2026. The VDPP is designed to strengthen India’s indigenous capability in deuterated compounds used in advanced scientific research and strategic applications. The 24 kA Prototype Sodium Cell is part of efforts to develop indigenous industrial-scale production of nuclear-grade sodium for the Fast Breeder Reactor Programme.

Sterlite Electric exports first 220 kV power cable order to Sri Lanka

Sterlite Electric has flagged off its first export order for 220 kV power cables to Sri Lanka. The order comprises single-core (1C) 630 sqmm cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE)-insulated power cables for a substation project in Colombo. The cables are being supplied to National Transmission Network Service Provider Pvt. Ltd. (NTNSP), formerly known as the Ceylon Electricity Board. The export marks Sterlite Electric’s entry into the Sri Lankan extra high voltage (EHV) cable market.
