Nxtra by Airtel has signed a new power wheeling deal with AMPIN Energy Transition to source 125.65 MW of hybrid solar-wind power via interstate transmission.

The arrangement will add 205,167 megawatt-hours (MWh) of renewable energy to Nxtra’s annual supply. The power will be delivered in two phases through captive hybrid projects connected to the interstate grid, located in Rajasthan and Karnataka.

This agreement increases the total contracted renewable capacity between Nxtra and AMPIN to over 200 MW. Previously, AMPIN supplied Nxtra with solar power through intra-state projects in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Odisha.

With this expansion, AMPIN will now deliver power across 11 additional states using the ISTS network, supporting Nxtra’s national renewable strategy. The deal is also expected to improve infrastructure efficiency across Nxtra’s facilities.

Nxtra, launched in 2013, sources 41 per cent of its data centre power needs from renewables. In June 2024, Nxtra became the first Indian data centre firm to join the RE100 global initiative, committing to 100 per cent renewable energy. The company reports that 70 per cent of its core operations now run on clean power.
