Tripura installs over 590 rooftop solar units under PM Surya Ghar
Tripura has recorded over 15,700 registrations under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, with 591 rooftop solar systems installed so far, according to a press release cited by Tripura Times.
Of the total, 516 beneficiaries have received government subsidies, while 117 consumers reported zero power bills this month. These households also earned a combined Rs 43,545 by exporting surplus electricity to the grid, with payments already credited to their accounts.
Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) stated that the state has reached 2 megawatts of solar generation capacity. The utility now aims to scale this to 50 megawatts within a year, which it says could make the state power self-reliant.
The PM Surya Ghar scheme, launched in February 2024, provides subsidies of up to Rs 85,500 per household for rooftop solar installations. A 1 kilowatt (kW) system can generate roughly 100 units of electricity per month, typically enough for an average home.
