Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) has reduced its distribution losses to 8.44 per cent in 2024–25, down from 12.27 per cent in 2019–20.
The improvement follows large-scale underground and aerial cabling works launched in 2019–20, covering over 12,800 km at Rs 5,031.65 crore.
The decline in losses is linked to reduced theft, better metering, and cable conversion in urban Bengaluru. Further reductions may be difficult without similar investments in rural areas, where theft remains high and returns on infrastructure upgrades are limited.
