Hitachi Energy to invest Rs 1,000 crore in Tamil Nadu expansion
Hitachi Energy India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Tamil Nadu to invest Rs 1,000 crore over the next three to five years. The investment will expand the company’s Global Technology and Innovation Centre (GTIC) in Porur, Chennai, and add a new manufacturing line at its Chengalpattu facility. The expansion is expected to create around 1,000 high-skilled technology jobs. The new manufacturing line will produce semiconductor-based HVAC-to-HVDC conversion equipment for high-voltage direct current transmission systems.
ACEN to sell up to 49% stake in 100 MW Karnataka wind project
ACEN Corporation has signed an agreement to sell up to a 49% stake in its 100 MW wind power project in Karnataka to Diamond India Renewables One B.V. (DIRO). The transaction will be completed in phases through Unlimited Renewables Holdings B.V. (URH), beginning with the acquisition of a 10% voting stake. The deal follows a similar agreement for a 250 MW solar project in Rajasthan announced last month. URH is currently developing three renewable energy projects across Rajasthan and Karnataka with a combined installed capacity of 1,059 MW.
HARTEK secures 400 MW solar EPC project in Rajasthan
HARTEK’s Renewables Business Unit has secured a 400 MW utility-scale solar Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) project in Rajasthan. The project includes two 200 MW solar plants with a total installed capacity of 299.2 MWac/400 MWdc. The scope covers engineering, procurement, installation, testing, commissioning and construction of a 220 kV Solar Pooling Substation for grid evacuation. The project also includes grid interconnection and final commissioning.
TPG-led consortium to acquire Aseem Infrastructure Finance
TPG, along with GIC and ICICI Bank, has signed definitive agreements to acquire a 100% stake in Aseem Infrastructure Finance. ICICI Bank will retain up to a 5% stake, while the investment will be made through TPG Rise Climate. Aseem has disbursed more than Rs 40,000 crore in loans, financed over 27 GW of renewable energy projects and supported around 2,000 circuit kilometers of power transmission projects. The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and closing conditions.
Pace Digitek completes one year of BESS manufacturing at Bidadi
Pace Digitek Limited’s subsidiary, Lineage Power Private Limited (LPPL), has completed one year of commercial Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing at its Bidadi facility. During the year, the company manufactured more than 260 utility-scale BESS containers representing over 1.25 GWh of integrated BESS capacity. The facility integrates battery assembly, container fabrication, Power Conversion Systems (PCS), Energy Management Systems (EMS) and EPC capabilities. The company plans to further expand its manufacturing capacity.
Crompton Greaves, RMC Switchgears win MSEDCL solar pump orders
Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has awarded separate solar pump contracts to Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Limited and RMC Switchgears Limited. Crompton Greaves received an order worth approximately Rs 64.99 crore, excluding GST, for 3,000 off-grid DC solar photovoltaic water pumping systems. RMC Switchgears secured a Rs 23.64 crore contract for installing 3 HP, 5 HP and 7.5 HP solar pumps across Maharashtra. Both projects are being executed under the Magel Tyala Saur Krushi Pump Yojana/PM-KUSUM-B scheme.
NALCO, NLC India form JV for 1,080 MW captive thermal power plant
National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) and NLC India Limited (NLCIL) have signed a Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) to develop a 4×270 MW (1,080 MW) captive thermal power plant at Angul, Odisha. The joint venture will have equal equity participation from both companies and will supply power exclusively to NALCO under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). The project will support NALCO’s planned 0.5 MTPA aluminium smelter expansion. The estimated capital cost is Rs 11,313.47 crore.
JSW Energy commissions 1,081 MW renewable capacity since April
JSW Energy Limited has commissioned 1,081 MW of renewable energy capacity since April 2026, increasing its installed generation capacity to 14,535 MW. The additions include 442 MW of solar, 108 MW of wind, 381 MW of hybrid and 150 MW of hydro capacity. Renewable energy now accounts for 61% of the company’s installed capacity. JSW Energy’s total locked-in generation capacity has reached 32.1 GW.
WRPC approves 750 MW/3,000 MWh BESS proposal for Gujarat
The Western Regional Power Committee (WRPC) has granted in-principle approval for Power Grid Corporation of India Limited’s proposal to install 750 MW/3,000 MWh of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) at three interstate transmission system substations in Gujarat. The project will include 250 MW/1,000 MWh systems at Bhuj, KPS-II and Banaskantha. The estimated project cost ranges from Rs 3,600 crore to Rs 5,400 crore. The proposal will now be submitted to the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC).
CEA advisory: how to use electricity safely this summer amid El Niño heat
The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has issued an advisory on the safe and efficient use of electricity in view of the India Meteorological Department’s forecast of above-normal temperatures linked to El Niño conditions. The advisory recommends keeping connected load within sanctioned limits, setting air conditioners at 24°C and regularly servicing electrical appliances. It also advises consumers to avoid overloading sockets and install properly rated Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCBs) and Residual Current Devices (RCDs). DISCOMs have been advised to monitor network loading and replace ageing assets in time.
First in India: Rajasthan partners with ISA for energy transition
Rajasthan has become the first Indian state to sign a Framework for Action with the International Solar Alliance (ISA). The agreement will support renewable energy expansion, transmission upgrades, energy storage, grid modernisation and institutional capacity building. Rajasthan currently has more than 42 GW of installed solar capacity and nearly 48 GW of total clean energy capacity. The state aims to increase clean energy capacity to 125 GW under its Integrated Clean Energy Policy.
What caused the 10-hour communication outage at India’s Eastern grid
The Eastern Regional Power Committee (ERPC) has constituted a committee to investigate the communication outage that disrupted the Eastern Region’s power grid on June 1, 2026. The outage left the Eastern Regional Load Despatch Centre without real-time visibility of the regional power system for nearly 10 hours. Multiple operational systems, including ICCP, RTU, SCADA, PMU, WAMS and VoIP communications, were affected. The committee will identify the root cause and recommend corrective measures.
Rajesh Power Services bags Rs 653 crore PGVCL underground cabling orders
Rajesh Power Services Limited (RPSL) has secured turnkey orders worth Rs 653.12 crore, including taxes, from Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Limited (PGVCL). The projects involve converting existing 11 kV HT and LT overhead distribution networks into underground cable systems with Ring Main Systems (RMS). The scope also includes Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping and asset tagging across four distribution circles in Gujarat. The projects are scheduled for completion within 18 months.
L&T begins structural dispatch for 2,400 MW Pirpainti thermal project
L&T Energy–CarbonLite Solutions has commenced dispatch of the primary structure for Unit 1 of the 3×800 MW Pirpainti Ultra-Supercritical Thermal Power Project in Bihar. The company is executing the boiler, turbine and generator (BTG) package for Adani Power Limited’s project. The dispatch marks the beginning of the structural material supply phase. The project will comprise three 800 MW ultra-supercritical generating units with a total capacity of 2,400 MW.
