Vikram Solar signs MoU for Rs 15,037 crore BESS plant in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thiru C. Joseph Vijay stands with Vikram Solar representatives after exchanging an MoU to establish a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing facility in Gangaikondan, Tirunelveli district.

Vikram Solar has exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Tamil Nadu to establish a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing facility at Gangaikondan in Tirunelveli district. The agreement was formalised in the presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru C. Joseph Vijay.

The proposed project involves an investment of Rs 15,037 crore and is expected to generate 2,670 jobs. The facility is aimed at expanding battery manufacturing capacity and strengthening Tamil Nadu’s clean energy manufacturing ecosystem.

Expansion at Gangaikondan

The proposed BESS facility follows the recent commissioning of Vikram Solar’s solar photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturing plant at the Gangaikondan campus. The 6 lakh sq. ft. automated facility manufactures 615-640 Wp Hypersol N-Type TOPCon modules and forms part of the company’s integrated manufacturing plans covering modules, cells, wafers and ingots.

Vikram Solar already operates solar PV module manufacturing facilities at Oragadam and Vallam in Tamil Nadu. The proposed BESS plant will expand the company’s manufacturing footprint in the state and add battery storage manufacturing to its existing solar module operations.
