Tripura secures Rs 15,000 crore power sector financing from REC

Officials from REC Limited and the Government of Tripura pose with signed MoU documents at the Destination Tripura Business Conclave 2026, where REC committed up to Rs 15,000 crore for renewable energy and power infrastructure projects in the state.

REC Limited has signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Government of Tripura, committing financial support of up to Rs 15,000 crore for renewable energy and power infrastructure projects in the state. The agreements were signed during the Destination Tripura Business Conclave 2026.

The two MoUs cover renewable energy projects worth up to Rs 5,000 crore and power sector infrastructure projects worth up to Rs 10,000 crore.

Renewable energy projects

REC signed the first MoU with the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA), the state’s nodal agency for renewable energy, to provide financial support for renewable energy projects worth up to Rs 5,000 crore.

The agreement was signed by Sh. Subhendu Roy, Chief Program Manager, REC Regional Office, Guwahati, and Sh. D S Das, Director General (In-charge), TREDA, in the presence of Sh. K. Ashish Rao, Deputy General Manager (BDM), REC Limited, and Sh. Uttam Kumar Bargayary, Chief Manager, REC Limited.

Under the agreement, TREDA will facilitate the implementation of renewable energy projects in the state, while REC will provide financial assistance.

Power infrastructure

REC also signed an MoU with the Department of Power, Government of Tripura, through the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL), to support power sector projects worth up to Rs 10,000 crore.

The agreement was signed by Sh. Subhendu Roy and Sh. Biswajit Basu, Managing Director, TSECL, in the presence of Sh. Ratan Lal Nath, Hon’ble Minister of Power, Tripura.

The MoU covers financing for a range of power sector projects aimed at strengthening the state’s electricity infrastructure.

The combined financial commitment of up to Rs 15,000 crore is intended to support both renewable energy deployment and power infrastructure development in Tripura.
