Four companies signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Government of Gujarat, committing investments of over Rs 34,000 crore across renewable power, biofuels, and biogas projects.
NLC India Limited (NLCIL), a Navratna public sector undertaking under the Ministry The largest commitment came from NLC India Limited, a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Coal, which signed a non-binding MoU for large-scale renewable energy projects with an investment potential of approximately Rs 25,000 crore. The agreement, signed by NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL) CEO Shri Devendra Pratap Singh and Gujarat’s Joint Secretary for Energy Smt. Bhakthi Shamal, covers Solar, Wind, Hybrid, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This initiative supports NLCIL’s goal to achieve 10 GW of renewable capacity by 2030 and will be facilitated by the state government in obtaining necessary clearances.
In the biofuels segment, Essar Future Energy Limited inked an MoU to establish a large-scale bio-fuel complex in Devbhumi Dwarka district. With a proposed investment of Rs 5,100 crore, the project aims for an initial processing capacity of 1 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to produce clean fuels for aviation, shipping, and road transport. Operations are targeted to commence by 2029, generating around 350 direct jobs, as stated by CEO Mr. Vibhav Agarwal.
Adding to the biogas infrastructure, Rudra Gas Enterprise Limited announced an MoU for a proposed biogas project in Gujarat. The company disclosed the agreement in a regulatory filing, though specific project details regarding capacity and investment were not immediately released.
