The US Department of Energy (DOE) has announced nearly $2 billion in funding for 38 projects under the Grid Resilience and Innovation Partnerships (GRIP) program.Â
The initiative aims to upgrade transmission and distribution infrastructure, introducing advanced technologies to support over 7.5 GW of grid capacity.Â
These efforts are expected to accelerate the integration of clean energy projects, create around 6,000 jobs, and leverage over $4.2 billion in public and private investment, ensuring reliable and clean energy access across 42 states and the District of Columbia.
The program includes six key projects in the southeastern US, specifically targeting regions affected by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. In total, the selected projects will modernize over 950 miles of transmission infrastructure. This includes building more than 300 miles of new transmission lines and enhancing 650 miles of existing lines with grid-enhancing technologies, increasing the network’s capacity to deliver clean energy and supporting the nation’s climate objectives.
