Statkraft has filed a planning application for the 2.1 GW Baltic Offshore Delta North wind farm, located approximately 100 kilometres east of Stockholm, within Sweden’s economic zone in the Baltic Sea.
The bottom-fixed wind farm is designed to produce around 8 TWh of electricity annually, which could supply 40% of Stockholm County’s electricity consumption.
The project site, identified as suitable for offshore wind by Swedish authorities, aligns with the revised Marine Spatial Plans that promote coexistence with other ocean users. With water depths between 40 and 80 meters, it is the only viable location for large-scale bottom-fixed offshore wind near Stockholm.Â
Depending on the final grid connection and landfall points, the project may integrate hydrogen or e-fuel technologies to enhance grid stability and manage wind power intermittency.
In a related development earlier this year, Boralex Inc. signed a 3-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Statkraft for the 106 MW Limekiln Wind Farm in Caithness, Scotland. The PPA, effective from the expected commissioning at the end of 2024 until the contract for difference begins in April 2028, underscores Statkraft’s expanding renewable energy portfolio.
