Torrent Saurya Urja 2 Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Torrent Power Limited (TPL), has commissioned a 300 MW grid-connected solar power project in Gujarat.
TPL won bids in April 2021 for a 150 MW base capacity and an additional 150 MW under the greenshoe option at a tariff of Rs 2.22 per kWh. The bids were invited by Torrent Power Limited – Distribution (TPL-D) in December 2020 for 300 MW, with an option for an additional 300 MW.
The project includes 300 MW/420 MWp of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity. Power generated will be supplied to TPL-D under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA).
Author: PPD Team Date: July 23, 2025 The power ministry is examining the use of battery energy storage systems (BESS) for thermal power plants, according to two government officials cited by Moneycontrol. This will address rising operational costs caused by frequent ramping down of thermal units to accommodate renewable energy. So far, energy storage solutions have been targeted at renewable energy projects, which are inherently variable. BESS helps smooth this variability, especially during non-solar hours….
