THDC commissions 11 MW floating solar plant at Khurja STPP

THDC India Limited, a subsidiary of NTPC Group, has declared the commercial operation date (COD) of an 11 MWac floating solar power plant at the Khurja Super Thermal Power Plant (STPP). The project, installed on the raw water reservoir of the thermal power station, commenced commercial operations on July 17, 2026.

The commissioning adds to NTPC Group’s renewable energy portfolio and represents another instance of integrating solar generation infrastructure with existing thermal power assets.

Capacity addition

Following the declaration of commercial operations, NTPC Group’s total installed capacity has increased to 90,965 MW, while its commercial capacity has reached 89,885 MW.

For THDC India Limited, the new project has taken both its installed and commercial capacity to 3,918 MW.

The floating solar facility has been developed on the raw water reservoir associated with the Khurja STPP, enabling power generation without requiring additional land.

The Khurja project adds to the growing deployment of floating solar technology in India’s power sector as utilities seek to expand renewable energy capacity using available infrastructure.
