Seven firms win BSPGCL’s 125 MW/500 MWh BESS auction

Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited (BSPGCL) has announced the results of its tender for 125 MW/500 MWh standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS). The auction awarded the full capacity at a uniform tariff of Rs 444,000 per MW per month.
The awarded capacities are as follows:
- Barbrik Projects: 37.5 MW/150 MWh
- ProstarM Info Systems: 30 MW/120 MWh
- Hindustan Thermal Project: 30 MW/120 MWh
- Suryam International: 10 MW/40 MWh
- Kundan Green Energy: 10 MW/40 MWh
- Saatvik Green Energy: 7.5 MW/30 MWh
The minimum bid size permitted was 5 MW/20 MWh, with bidders allowed to apply for up to the total tendered capacity. All selected developers will receive viability gap funding of up to Rs 2.7 million per MWh or 30% of capital cost, whichever is lower.
These BESS projects must be available to the state transmission utility for on-demand charging and discharging, and connected to the grid at 33 kV or above. Integration with the state’s transmission system will be coordinated by the state load despatch centre in consultation with discoms.
All developers are required to use commercially proven and operational technologies to reduce implementation risks and ensure timely commissioning.
