POWERGRID wins Kakinada green hydrogen transmission project
Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has been declared the successful bidder for establishing the interstate transmission system (ISTS) for the “Transmission system for proposed Green Hydrogen / Green Ammonia projects in Kakinada area (Phase-I)” under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) mechanism.
The project will be implemented on a build, own, operate, and transfer (BOOT) basis. It involves development of a new 765/400 kV gas-insulated substation (GIS), installation of STATCOM, and associated 765 kV transmission line works in Andhra Pradesh.
The estimated project cost is Rs 1,618 crore, with a gestation period of 24 months. POWERGRID received the letter of intent (LoI) on June 12, 2026.
Bidding process
The bidding process for the scheme was initiated by PFC Consulting Limited in March 2025. The bid submission deadline was extended nearly 30 times due to multiple amendments in the bidding documents.
On June 3, 2026, nine entities were declared qualified bidders for the initial offer stage of the project. These included Adani Energy Solutions Limited, Apraava Energy, Dilip Buildcon Limited, Jakson Limited, Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Limited, POWERGRID, Resonia Limited, Terralight Solar Energy Tinwari Private Limited, and Tata Power Company Limited.
FY27 ISTS-TBCB transfers
Since April 1, 2026, three ISTS-TBCB schemes have been formally transferred to winning developers:
NERGS III Siang Basin Transmission Ltd was transferred by PFCCL to Dineshchandra R. Agrawal Infracon Private Limited (DRAIPL).
Tumkur II RE Transmission Ltd was acquired by POWERGRID on May 29, 2026, for around Rs 15.46 crore.
Kurnool IV REZ Power Transmission Ltd was transferred to Resonia Limited on May 29, 2026, for a consideration of Rs 20.94 crore.
