Evonith Steel acquires 85 MW IPPL power plant via IBC route
Nagpur-based Evonith Steel has acquired Wardha-based Indrajit Power Pvt Ltd (IPPL), an 85 MW coal-based power producer, for Rs 232 crore through the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) process. The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) approved the acquisition on April 20. The plant is located adjacent to Evonith Steel’s integrated steel facility in Wardha and is expected to support the company’s power requirements and future expansion plans.
MNRE exempts select PM Surya Ghar projects from ALMM-II norms
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has exempted residential net-metering consumers under the “Give It Up” category of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY) from Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) List-II requirements for solar photovoltaic (PV) cells. The exemption is valid until March 31, 2027, and applies only to consumers voluntarily forgoing Central Financial Assistance (CFA). Eligible consumers will also not need to apply separately on the Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) Portal of the National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE).
Hyundai names Tamil Nadu as flagship EV hub for India
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has announced Tamil Nadu as its “Flagship EV Hub for India” as it expands electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing and localization in the state. The company plans to launch two new models from its Chennai facility this year, including its first mass-market dedicated EV. HMIL also plans to invest over ₹26,000 crore in Tamil Nadu between 2023 and 2032 and increase localization levels from 82% to 90% over the next five to six years.
Waaree Renewable bags 300 MW solar EPC order from SPPL
Waaree Renewable Technologies Limited has received a Letter of Award (LOA) for the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of a 300 MW/450 MWp ground-mount solar project. The scope includes two years of operation and maintenance services, with completion scheduled during FY27. The order has been awarded by Sunsational Power Private Limited (SPPL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Waaree Renewable Technologies.
JSW Energy commissions wind blade plant in Gujarat
JSW Energy Limited has commissioned a wind blade manufacturing plant at Halol, Gujarat. The facility has an annual production capacity of up to 450 wind blades, equivalent to 600 MW of wind projects, and will manufacture 82-metre blades compatible with 4 MW wind turbine generators. The company said the plant will help reduce supply chain risks and support compliance with domestic content requirements.
Haryana mandates EV charging infrastructure in buildings
The Haryana Government has amended the Haryana Building Code, 2017, to mandate electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in residential and non-residential buildings with parking capacity for at least 10 cars. Residential buildings will need at least one EV charging spot for every five parking spaces, while commercial buildings will require one charging spot for every three parking spaces. The revised rules also require all new and renovated buildings to install 100% EV-ready conduits.
Indonesia’s tower collapse raises questions over grid resilience in renewable push
The collapse of 12 transmission towers in Indonesia’s North Sumatra region has raised concerns over grid resilience amid rising renewable energy integration. The failures caused rolling blackouts across Medan and nearby regions, affecting both 275 kV and 150 kV transmission lines. Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR) has called for an independent investigation and urged the Indonesian government to develop a National Grid Resilience Strategy.
