Power Grid, Adani among five shortlisted for Satara transmission line
PFC Consulting Limited (PFCCL) has qualified five bidders in the technical evaluation for the transmission scheme planned to evacuate power from pumped storage projects near Satara, Maharashtra, with the network designed to cater to up to 4,500 MW of capacity.
Resonia Limited, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, Adani Energy Solutions Limited, Dilip Buildcon Limited and Ceigall India Limited have qualified for the Request for Proposal (RFP) technical bids for the “Network Expansion Scheme in Western Region to cater to pumped storage potential near Satara (up to 4,500 MW) – Part A.”
The Initial Offer opening for the five qualified bidders will now proceed according to the bidding schedule.
Transmission plan
The transmission scheme will be developed in two phases. Phase-I will cater to 1,800 MW and is scheduled for completion by March 31, 2029. It includes establishing a 765 kV level at the Kolhapur (PG) GIS substation, a new 765/400 kV substation at Satara and a LILO of the Pune-III–Pune (East) 765 kV D/C line.
Phase-II will expand the system to cater to up to 4,500 MW and is scheduled for completion by December 31, 2029. This phase includes the Kolhapur-Satara 765 kV D/C transmission line and additional transformation capacity.
The network is intended to evacuate electricity from pumped storage projects being developed in the Satara region and provide transmission capacity as the region’s pumped storage potential expands.
Project implementation
The Ministry of Power appointed PFCCL as the Bid Process Coordinator (BPC) for selecting a Transmission Service Provider (TSP) for the project through the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) route. The appointment was made through a Gazette Notification dated March 24, 2026.
PFCCL incorporated Satara Power Transmission Limited as a wholly owned subsidiary in July 2026 to implement the transmission project.
The RFP documents were issued by PFCCL on May 1, 2026, and the technical bids were opened on July 23, 2026.
The qualification of five bidders clears the technical evaluation stage and allows the bidding process to move towards the Initial Offer stage for selecting the transmission service provider.
