NTPC Green Energy wins 200 MW/800 MWh BESS project in West Bengal
NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has secured a 200 MW/800 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in West Bengal through a tariff-based competitive bidding process conducted by the West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL).
The company emerged as the successful bidder in the e-reverse auction concluded on August 7, 2026, with a discovered tariff of Rs 4.35 lakh per MW per month.
Project
The tender was floated by WBSEDCL for the development of 500 MW/2,000 MWh of standalone BESS capacity across West Bengal to support grid stability and peak load management.
Under the award, NGEL will develop 200 MW/800 MWh of standalone energy storage capacity in the state in accordance with the terms of the Request for Selection (RfS) issued by WBSEDCL.
The project adds to NTPC Green Energy’s growing energy storage portfolio as the company expands its presence in battery storage alongside its renewable energy business.
