NHPC Limited has begun commercial operations of 53.57 MW solar capacity under Phase-IV of its 1,000 MW Grid Connected Solar PV Project in Bikaner, Rajasthan. The project is part of the Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) Tranche-III scheme and became operational on June 30, 2025.

This newly commissioned capacity is a part of the 300 MW solar plant being built at Karnisar-Bhatiyan in Bikaner. Tata Power Solar Systems Limited is executing the project on an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) basis. So far, 214.28 MW has been commissioned under this segment.

The broader 1,000 MW solar project falls under the CPSU Scheme Phase-II, which aims to set up 12,000 MW of grid-connected solar PV capacity across India. Projects under this scheme receive viability gap funding (VGF) and are meant for self-use by public sector entities or supply to Union and state government bodies. The power is sold on a build, own, and operate (BOO) basis at a capped usage charge of Rs 2.45 per kWh.
