Germany and India have reaffirmed their commitment to renewable energy and sustainable growth, the German Embassy has said. The announcement followed Parliamentary State Secretary Johann Saathoff’s four-day visit to India, marking 25 years of the Indo-German strategic partnership.
Saathoff opened the German Pavilion at the Renewable Energy India (REI) Expo 2025 in New Delhi, where companies from both countries showcased solar, wind, and green hydrogen technologies.
The Embassy said Saathoff described the partnership as a “Team Germany” effort involving ministries, GIZ, KfW, and private firms to build stronger renewable energy value chains.
At the Indo-German CEO Roundtable on Solar Energy, hosted by MNRE and NSEFI, discussions focused on solar manufacturing, technology exchange, and investment. Saathoff called renewable energy an economic and moral priority, noting that both countries share lessons on integrating solar and wind into national grids.
He also visited the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) in New Delhi to review the Agri-Photovoltaic (Agri-PV) project with GIZ India. The initiative combines solar generation and farming on the same land, which he described as a “third harvest” that strengthens food and energy security.
The visit was organised by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the German Consulate General in Chennai under the Green and Sustainable Development Partnership (GSDP).
