MKC Green wins 125 MW BESS project in Uttar Pradesh

MKC Green Energy Limited has secured a Letter of Award (LoA) for the development of a 125 MW / 500 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Uttar Pradesh.

The grid-scale energy storage project will be connected to the Uttar Pradesh State Transmission Utility (UP-STU) grid and has received Viability Gap Funding (VGF) support under the Power System Development Fund (PSDF) Scheme.

According to the company, the LoA was entered into on May 8, 2026.

The project forms part of Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited’s (UPPCL) larger programme to procure 375 MW / 1,500 MWh of battery energy storage capacity in the state.

The company stated that it will work with UPPCL and other stakeholders for timely execution of the project.

Tender awards

UPPCL had earlier awarded a 15-year tender for 375 MW / 1,500 MWh of BESS capacity under VGF Tranche-II. The tender attracted participation from 11 companies, with tariffs discovered in the range of Rs 6.45 per kWh to Rs 6.46 per kWh.  

KCC Buildcon Private Limited emerged as the largest winner with an allocation of 187.5 MW at a tariff of Rs 6.45 per unit. Agastya Energy Industries Pvt Ltd secured 62.5 MW at Rs 6.45 per unit. MKC Infrastructure Ltd, through MKC Green Energy, secured 125 MW capacity at a tariff of Rs 6.46 per unit.

Other bidders in the tender included Coal India, NLC India Renewables, MB Power (Madhya Pradesh), Stockwell Energy Vall Five, RKC Infra Built Energy Vault Five Private Limited, Avaada Energy, Ayana Renewables, and Gallantt Ispat.
