GAIL (India) Limited has signed contract agreements with TUSCO Limited for developing a 600 MW solar power project at TUSCO’s Solar Park in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. The agreements were executed on April 15, 2026, in the presence of senior officials from GAIL, TUSCO, and THDC India Limited.

The project will include a 550 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to support reliable power supply. The generated renewable energy will primarily meet the captive requirements of GAIL’s petrochemical plant at Pata in Auraiya district. It will also cater to incremental demand from electrification of gas-based equipment and upcoming Compressed Biogas (CBG) plants in the state.

Shri R K Singhal, Director (Business Development), GAIL, stated that the project reflects the company’s focus on expanding into low-carbon energy solutions and strengthening its presence in Uttar Pradesh.

TUSCO Limited is a joint venture between THDC India Limited and the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA). The project aligns with GAIL’s strategy to integrate renewable energy into its operations and progress towards its net-zero emissions targets.

The project had earlier received board approval on April 13, 2026. The total project cost is estimated at Rs 3,294.86 crore, including interest during construction and related expenses. GAIL plans to finance the project through a mix of debt and equity and expects to complete the capacity addition within 15 months from the award of the EPC contract. The development is part of GAIL’s plan to scale up its renewable energy portfolio, with its current installed renewable capacity at around 29 MW.
