GAIL (India) Limited has approved the development of a greenfield 600 MW solar project in Uttar Pradesh, integrated with 550 MWh of co-located battery energy storage system (BESS). The approval was granted at the company’s board meeting held on April 13, 2026.

The total project cost is estimated at Rs 3,294.86 crore, including interest during construction, taxes, and related expenditure. The project will be financed through a mix of debt and equity. GAIL expects to complete the capacity addition within 15 months from the award of the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract.

The project marks an expansion of GAIL’s renewable energy portfolio. The company currently operates around 29 MW of solar capacity, which is running at full utilization.

In March, GAIL invested Rs 130 million in Leafiniti Bioenergy Private Limited, a subsidiary of TruAlt Bioenergy Limited, to jointly develop a portfolio of compressed biogas (CBG) plants across Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Odisha.
