The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) released the draft in September 2025, proposing tighter controls under the Deviation Settlement Mechanism for wind and solar producers. The framework aims to narrow the gap between scheduled and actual generation, with a revised calculation method taking effect in April 2026. The tolerance margin would then decrease each year until 2031, aligning renewable projects with conventional plants in terms of grid discipline.
The initiative seeks to improve forecasting and scheduling accuracy as renewables expand their share in India’s power mix. However, the rules could disproportionately affect wind energy producers due to the variable nature of wind patterns, according to industry feedback cited by Reuters.
The Wind Independent Power Producers Association has said the proposed penalties could cause significant financial losses, particularly for older projects built under earlier regulatory frameworks. The association estimated potential revenue losses of up to 48% for some wind projects and noted that it had already filed a legal challenge in April 2025 against earlier deviation-related regulations.
The National Solar Energy Federation of India also raised concerns, warning that the new rules could threaten project viability and discourage further investment in the country’s renewable energy sector.
Author: PPD Team Date: April 15, 2025 On April 14, 2025, the Union Government laid the foundation stone for the Deen Bandhu Chhotu Ram Power Expansion Project in Yamunanagar, Haryana. The expansion will see the development of an 800 MW unit by Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited (HPGCL) at an estimated cost of Rs 84.7 billion. This project is an extension of the existing 2×300 MW power plant, which was commissioned in 2008. About 30…
Author: PPD Team Date: October 14, 2025 The government has introduced a mandatory registration system for imports of selected components used in renewable energy projects. The framework aims to improve supply chain oversight, reduce delays, and provide authorities with clearer data on the availability of critical equipment. It also ensures that imported products meet technical and safety standards. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, established the Renewable…
Author: PPD Team Date: October 23, 2024 The US Department of Energy (DOE) has announced nearly $2 billion in funding for 38 projects under the Grid Resilience and Innovation Partnerships (GRIP) program. The initiative aims to upgrade transmission and distribution infrastructure, introducing advanced technologies to support over 7.5 GW of grid capacity. These efforts are expected to accelerate the integration of clean energy projects, create around 6,000 jobs, and leverage over $4.2 billion in public…
