The Andhra Pradesh government has approved Websol Energy System Limited’s proposal to set up a greenfield 4 GW solar cell and module manufacturing facility at MPSEZ in Naidupeta, Tirupati district. The approval was issued through a Government Order by the state Industries and Commerce Department and follows a memorandum of understanding signed with the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board (APEDB) in November 2025.
Websol Energy announced the approval in a press release dated January 11, 2026. The project will receive a state-backed incentive package that includes land allotment, fixed capital investment subsidy, power tariff reimbursement, electricity duty exemption, subsidy on industrial water charges, and exemption from stamp duty and registration charges.
The company plans to develop the facility as an integrated manufacturing unit. As part of the project, Websol Energy will also set up a 100 MW captive solar power plant to support manufacturing operations and improve energy cost efficiency.
Commenting on the approval, Sohan Lal Agarwal, Managing Director of Websol Energy System Limited, said the project would support India’s renewable energy and self-reliance objectives. He noted that Andhra Pradesh’s industrial ecosystem provides a suitable base for the company’s expansion plans.
Websol Energy currently operates a manufacturing unit at Falta Special Economic Zone in West Bengal, with an installed capacity of 1,200 MW for solar cells and 550 MW for solar modules. The proposed 4 GW plant marks a significant capacity expansion and aligns with national policy efforts to strengthen domestic solar manufacturing.
