Adani Group has announced its entry into the nuclear energy sector through Adani Atomic Energy, with a target of developing 10 GW of nuclear power generation capacity by 2035.

Speaking at the company’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), Chairman Gautam Adani said the group has already identified land for the proposed nuclear projects and is positioning itself to support India’s growing demand for reliable, round-the-clock clean energy.

Earlier this year, Adani Power established Adani Atomic Energy Limited and subsequently incorporated nuclear-focused subsidiaries, including Coastal-Maha Atomic Energy Limited and Rawatbhata-Raj Atomic Energy Limited.

Nuclear plans

According to Adani, the group’s entry into nuclear energy aims to support India’s long-term energy security and clean power requirements.

“Our entry into nuclear energy through Adani Atomic Energy is another confident step towards securing India’s long-term energy future. With land identified and a 10 GW targeted capacity by 2035, we are positioning ourselves early to serve the growing national demand for clean, round-the-clock power,” he said.

The announcement marks a significant expansion of the group’s clean energy portfolio and comes as India seeks to increase nuclear generation capacity to support rising electricity demand and decarbonisation goals.

Capacity target

Adani Group has set a target of 10 GW of nuclear generation capacity by 2035. While specific project locations and reactor technologies were not disclosed, the company said land has already been identified for the proposed developments.

The planned capacity is expected to contribute to India’s efforts to expand low-carbon baseload power generation and strengthen long-term energy security.

The announcement also comes amid ongoing policy discussions on increasing private sector participation in the country’s nuclear power sector.
