Adani Power Limited has secured a Letter of Award (LoA) from MP Power Management Company Limited (MPPMCL) for the supply of an additional 800 MW of power under the greenshoe option. With this, the total awarded capacity has increased to 1,600 MW.
The project will involve setting up a 1,600 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power plant in Anuppur district, Madhya Pradesh, under the Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) model. The company will invest about Rs 21,000 crore in the project, which will source coal through linkage allocated under the Government of India’s SHAKTI policy. Both units are scheduled to be commissioned within 60 months of the appointed date.
This marks the first adoption of the greenshoe mechanism in a thermal power tender in India. The awarded capacity is priced at Rs 5.838 per unit, the same tariff as the earlier allocation of 800 MW. The company expects to sign a power supply agreement with the state distribution company in due course.
The previous week, Adani Power had announced receiving an LoA from MPPMCL for 800 MW capacity in the same Anuppur project. That order carried an investment estimate of about Rs 10,500 crore and a similar tariff of Rs 5.838 per unit.
Adani Power reported that it has won power supply orders of 7,200 MW over the past 12 months, including allocations in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh. The company is implementing a capital expenditure program of 23.72 GW, which will raise its total generation capacity to 41.87 GW by 2031–32. Its current operating capacity stands at 18.15 GW across 12 thermal plants, in addition to a 40 MW solar project in Gujarat.
