ACEN–UPC JV begins work on 540 MW solar and wind projects

Author: PPD Team Date: June 30, 2025

The joint venture of ACEN and UPC Renewables has commenced construction of two large-scale renewable energy projects in India. The work began on June 25, 2025, and includes a 420 MW solar power project in Rajasthan and a 120 MW wind power project in Karnataka.

The wind project in Karnataka is being developed for SJVN Limited. UPC Renewables India Management Private Limited won the capacity in August 2024 with a tariff of Rs 3.99 per kWh, following SECI’s 600 MW wind tender issued in March 2024.

Once commissioned in early 2027, the combined portfolio is expected to generate 1,158 GWh annually—767 GWh from solar and 391 GWh from wind. The Karnataka site benefits from strong monsoon winds and suitable terrain.

The projects are expected to create 1,500 construction-phase jobs and power approximately 241,000 homes, with a projected offset of 876,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.

The ACEN–UPC Renewables joint venture is also planning to divest up to 74 percent equity in the assets. Its India portfolio currently exceeds 1,000 MWp across solar, wind, and hybrid projects.
