Powerica incorporates renewable energy subsidiary Whisperwind Renewable
Powerica Limited has incorporated a wholly owned subsidiary, Whisperwind Renewable Private Limited (WRPL), to develop renewable energy projects across wind, solar and hybrid segments. The incorporation became effective on June 27, 2026, following approval from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs on the same date. Powerica Limited holds 100% of the paid-up share capital of WRPL, comprising 2,50,000 equity shares with a face value of Rs 10 each, aggregating to Rs 25,00,000. The subsidiary will undertake the development, construction and operation of renewable energy projects, including wind, solar, hybrid and allied activities.
EMMVEE orders 6 GW TOPCon solar cell equipment from RENA
RENA Technologies has secured a contract from EMMVEE Energy Private Limited to supply high-throughput solar cell production equipment with a total manufacturing capacity of 6 GW. The equipment will support the production of Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact (TOPCon) solar cells and includes multiple production tools along with integrated wastewater management systems. The contract also covers long-term service support, including 24/7 technical assistance, customer training and spare parts support from Chennai. The project will be executed with centrotherm and ISC Konstanz.
EAC grants ToR for GMR Warora’s 660 MW thermal power expansion
The Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) for Thermal Projects has recommended the grant of Terms of Reference (ToR) for the expansion of GMR Warora Energy Limited’s thermal power plant in Maharashtra. The proposal involves adding a 1×660 MW supercritical coal-based unit, increasing capacity from 600 MW to 1,260 MW. The committee has prescribed detailed environmental studies covering forests, biodiversity, water resources, pollution control and cumulative air quality impacts. GWEL will now prepare an Environmental Impact Assessment report before seeking environmental clearance.
Yogi Adityanath lays foundation for SAEL’s 10 GW solar manufacturing plant in Jewar
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has laid the foundation stone for SAEL’s Rs 8,200 crore integrated solar cell and module manufacturing plant in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh. The project will be developed over 200 acres with 5 GW of solar cell capacity and 5 GW of solar module capacity. The facility will manufacture high-efficiency Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact (TOPCon) solar modules. SAEL plans to increase its investment in Uttar Pradesh to Rs 20,000 crore by 2029-30, with the project expected to generate around 20,000 direct and indirect jobs.
World’s first Cu-Cl hydrogen plant using nuclear heat inaugurated in India
The Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) has commissioned a pilot hydrogen production facility at the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam. According to DAE, it is the world’s first facility to produce hydrogen using the Copper–Chlorine (Cu–Cl) thermochemical cycle powered by nuclear process heat from the Fast Breeder Test Reactor (FBTR). The project has been jointly developed by Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) and IGCAR. The demonstration plant is expected to generate operational data for future commercial deployment.
Bihar records its all-time high electricity demand of 9,068 MW on June 24
Bihar recorded its highest-ever peak electricity demand of 9,068 MW at 10:56 PM on June 24, 2026, without any power shortage. According to the National Load Despatch Centre’s Daily Power Supply Position report, India’s peak electricity demand reached 250,529 MW on the same day. Bihar consumed 183.49 MU of energy while the Eastern Region met its evening peak demand without shortage. The state government said it will continue strengthening transmission and distribution infrastructure to meet future demand.
NLDC issues revised procedure for temporary GNA through NOAR
The National Load Despatch Centre (NLDC) has issued a revised procedure for Temporary General Network Access (T-GNA) through the National Open Access Registry (NOAR), effective June 24, 2026. The framework requires all T-GNA activities to be processed digitally through NOAR. It specifies timelines for application processing, introduces a non-refundable processing fee of Rs 5,000 and prescribes payment and compliance requirements. The revised procedure also includes provisions for renewable energy projects and Energy Storage Systems (BESS/PSP).
PGCIL’s Ananthapur-Kurnool transmission project achieves commercial operation
Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) has completed the commissioning of the transmission scheme for the Solar Energy Zone in Ananthapuram and Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh. The project achieved commercial operation on June 24, 2026. According to the Central Electricity Authority, the project has an estimated cost of Rs 823 crore. It includes a 7×500 MVA, 400/220 kV substation at Ananthapuram and 371 km of 400 kV double-circuit transmission lines.
Vikran Engineering secures Rs 3,518 crore solar EPC order
Vikran Engineering Limited has accepted a turnkey engineering, procurement and construction contract worth Rs 3,517.98 crore from its wholly owned subsidiary, NOPL Solar Projects Private Limited, for a 969 MW AC solar power project in Maharashtra. The contract covers design, engineering, procurement, supply, erection, testing and commissioning, with completion scheduled within 12 months. The company also announced the cancellation of an earlier 600 MW EPC agreement following corporate restructuring. Separately, it cancelled a 100 MW AC solar EPC project due to prolonged delays at the client’s end.
Adani Green commissions 150 MW solar project at Khavda
Adani Green Energy Limited has operationalised a 150 MW solar power project at Khavda, Gujarat, through Adani Renewable Energy Eight Limited. The company commenced power generation on June 28, 2026, after obtaining the required clearances. Following the commissioning, AGEL’s operational renewable energy generation capacity has increased to 19,985.8 MW. Its operational Battery Energy Storage System capacity now stands at 3,366 MWh.
Waaree clarifies CBP findings on U.S. solar imports
Waaree Energies Limited has clarified media reports relating to a determination by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection in EAPA Consolidated Investigation No. 8163. The company said CBP confirmed that it did not export solar modules manufactured using Chinese-origin solar cells to the United States and acknowledged its cooperation during the investigation. Waaree stated that the determination is limited to a narrow subset of historical import entries and is not a final adjudication. The company said its U.S. business continues to operate normally without any impact on manufacturing or customer deliveries.
PFC, REC boards approve merger to create Rs 11 lakh crore lender
The boards of Power Finance Corporation Limited (PFC) and REC Limited have approved a Scheme of Merger under Sections 230 to 232 of the Companies Act, 2013. The merger will create a government-owned financing entity with an aggregate loan book of over Rs 11 lakh crore. REC shareholders will receive 88 equity shares of PFC for every 100 REC shares, with no cash consideration. The scheme remains subject to approvals from shareholders, creditors, stock exchanges and regulatory authorities.
