Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has laid the foundation stone for SAEL’s integrated solar cell and module manufacturing plant in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh. The Rs 8,200 crore project will be developed on 200 acres in the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) region and is designed as a 10 GW integrated manufacturing facility comprising 5 GW of solar cell capacity and 5 GW of solar module capacity.

Once operational, the plant will manufacture high-efficiency Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact (TOPCon) solar modules to meet India’s growing renewable energy demand.

Project and state targets

Addressing the event, the Chief Minister said the project would help strengthen domestic solar manufacturing and reduce India’s dependence on imported solar technology.

He said Uttar Pradesh has set a target of generating 20,000 MW of renewable energy over the next two to three years. The state currently generates more than 6,000 MW of renewable power.

Adityanath also said electricity bills of more than 600,000 families have declined by up to 60% under the PM Suryaghar Yojana. According to him, Uttar Pradesh currently generates over 2,000 MW of electricity through rooftop solar installations.

The Chief Minister said the state has become the country’s largest ethanol producer following the implementation of the Ethanol Blending Policy, contributing nearly 55% of India’s ethanol production. He added that the government is also promoting Compressed Biogas (CBG) plants to utilise crop residue, with a target of establishing 100 CBG plants over the next year.

SAEL Co-founder and Director Sukhbir Singh said the company plans to increase its investment in Uttar Pradesh to Rs 20,000 crore by 2029-30. He said the Jewar project is expected to generate around 20,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities in the renewable energy sector.
