PGCIL’s Ananthapur-Kurnool transmission project achieves commercial operation
Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) has completed the commissioning of the “Transmission scheme for Solar Energy Zone in Ananthapuram (Ananthapur) (2500 MW) and Kurnool (1000 MW), Andhra Pradesh” project. The project achieved commercial operation on June 24, 2026. The Declaration of Commercial Operation (DOCO), dated June 25, 2026, was received by the company on June 26, 2026.
The project was originally entrusted to POWERGRID Ananthapuram Kurnool Transmission Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of PGCIL. However, following an order issued by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs on January 27, 2026, the subsidiary was amalgamated with POWERGRID Khawda II-C Transmission Limited with effect from March 1, 2026.
According to the Central Electricity Authority’s (CEA) May 2026 report, the project has an estimated cost of Rs 823 crore. The Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) was transferred in September 2023. The project was initially scheduled for completion in September 2025, with the revised target set for June 2026, which has now been achieved.
Project scope
The transmission scheme includes a 7×500 MVA, 400/220 kV substation at Ananthapuram. It also comprises the Ananthapuram Pooling Station (PS)-Kurnool-III PS 400 kV (Quad Moose) double-circuit transmission line and the Ananthapuram PS-Cuddapah 400 kV (Quad Moose) double-circuit transmission line, spanning 371 km.
