NTPC declares commercial operation of 800 MW PVUNL Unit-2
NTPC Limited has announced the commercial operation of Unit-2 (800 MW) of the Patratu Super Thermal Power Project (STPP) Phase-I being developed by Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (PVUNL), its subsidiary.
The company informed the stock exchanges that the unit has been declared on commercial operation with effect from 00:00 hours on June 25, 2026.
Unit-2 is part of the 3×800 MW Patratu Super Thermal Power Project Phase-I in Jharkhand. The unit had earlier achieved grid synchronisation on March 17, 2026, and subsequently completed trial run operations before being declared commercially operational.
The first unit of the project, Unit-1 (800 MW), commenced commercial operation on November 5, 2025. With Unit-2 entering commercial service, the project has now commissioned 1,600 MW of its planned 2,400 MW capacity.
Following the commercial operation of the unit, the total installed capacity of the NTPC Group has increased to 90,857 MW. The group’s commercial capacity now stands at 89,777 MW.
The commissioning of the second 800 MW unit is expected to strengthen power supply in Jharkhand and the eastern region. The project forms part of NTPC’s ongoing thermal generation expansion programme aimed at meeting growing electricity demand while improving generation efficiency through supercritical technology.
