The project comprises three units of 800 MW each and is being implemented by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) under an EPC contract valued at Rs 18,668 crore.

About 85% of the electricity generated from Phase I will be supplied to Jharkhand to meet its growing demand. Phase II of the project is planned to add an additional 2,800 MW. Coal for the plant will be supplied from the Banhadi coal block in Latehar district, where local communities have granted no-objection certificates for mining activities.
