POWERGRID commissions Rajasthan renewable evacuation transmission system

POWERGRID Bhadla Sikar Transmission Limited (PBSTL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), has commissioned the project titled “Transmission system strengthening scheme for evacuation of Power from Solar energy Zones in Rajasthan (8.1GW) under Phase II – Part E”. The Notification for Commercial Operation (DOCO) was received on January 16, 2026.

The commissioning follows the recent charging of the 765 kilovolt (kV) double circuit Bhadla II–Sikar II (2nd) transmission line. This line forms part of a high-capacity corridor designed to transmit electricity from Rajasthan’s solar energy zones to the wider grid.

PBSTL was set up as a special purpose vehicle (SPV) and was awarded the project through tariff-based competitive bidding. The project is being implemented on a build, own, operate, and maintain (BOOM) basis. The SPV was incorporated on May 13, 2020, and was acquired by POWERGRID on March 28, 2023.

The commissioning strengthens the national transmission network’s ability to absorb large-scale renewable energy and supports the integration of solar power from Rajasthan into the interstate grid.
