Powertrust has announced an agreement with Microsoft to support 270 MW of distributed solar capacity in Mexico and Brazil over the next four years. Microsoft will buy Renewable Energy Certificates from these projects as part of its plan to become carbon negative by 2030 and reduce Scope 3 emissions.
Powertrust said the initiative will expand clean energy access in underserved regions. The projects aim to lower energy bills for low income households and community groups, create local jobs, and support training in solar installation and maintenance. The company said it will work with local NGOs and community leaders to guide project development and support education, healthcare, and infrastructure needs.
Powertrust CEO Nick Fedorkiw said the collaboration shows how corporate climate action can support local development while speeding up the transition to clean energy. Microsoft Energy Team Director Danielle Decatur said the company seeks sustainability infrastructure that is developed fairly and improves the well being of communities.
Powertrust is an energy procurement platform that helps companies pursue decarbonization through distributed solar projects with strong community engagement.
