Telangana outlines net zero roadmap for 2047
Telangana has set out a detailed plan to reach net zero emissions by 2047 under the Telangana Rising 2047 vision. The strategy links climate goals with the state’s plan to become a USD 3 trillion economy and calls for major investments in renewable energy, industrial decarbonization, electric transport, and sustainable agriculture. The state has 11,399 MW of renewable capacity and plans to add 20,000 MW by 2030, supported by a new Green Energy Policy 2.0. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said Telangana will need 1,39,310 MW of power by 2047, which reflects an annual 10 per cent rise in electricity demand and 13 per cent economic growth. The plan spans transport, industry, agriculture, waste management, and digital MRV systems, and aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions by more than 90 per cent.
UP launches scheme to ease electricity dues
Uttar Pradesh has rolled out the Bijli Bill Rahat Yojana to provide relief on overdue electricity bills starting December 1. The scheme gives domestic and small commercial users under LMV 1 and LMV 2 a full waiver of surcharge and interest and a 25 per cent cut in principal dues. It also covers cases linked to electricity theft through a settlement route that removes FIRs and court actions. Consumers can register by paying Rs 2000 either online or at division offices and can pay the balance in instalments. UPPCL Chairman Ashish Kumar Goel said the plan is intended to help users and improve arrear recovery, supported by outreach efforts and bill corrections.
MNRE eases prototype testing rule for wind turbine approvals
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has updated its wind manufacturing policy to postpone the required in-country prototype testing for turbine approvals. The amendment issued on December 1 changes the earlier rule by encouraging but not requiring testing in India until December 1, 2027. The mandatory condition will be reviewed before coming into force. The need for power curve testing and certification under IEC 61400-12-1 stays in place, and the evaluation committee will continue to assess data from sites that reflect Indian conditions. The ministry said the change offers a transition period while supporting plans to build domestic testing capacity.
Adani Green commissions 200 MW at Khavda
Adani Green Energy has started 200 MW of new renewable capacity at Khavda in Gujarat through its step-down subsidiaries. The addition lifts its operating portfolio to 16,929.8 MW. The project went live at 10.34 p.m. on November 30 after securing clearances, and power supply began on December 01. The company reported a 39 per cent year on year rise in energy sales in H1 FY26 driven by higher output and added capacity. Operational renewable capacity reached 16.7 GW in H1 FY26, up 49 per cent year on year, with 2.4 GW of greenfield additions in the period.
NTPC opens solar hydrogen project in Ladakh
NTPC has commissioned a 3.7 MW solar hydrogen project in Ladakh through a virtual inauguration by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The microgrid uses hydrogen storage and can supply 200 kW of continuous power through the year. It is designed to replace diesel sets at remote army locations and reduce fuel transport and emissions. NTPC said each three units of electricity previously required a litre of diesel to be carried to high altitude posts. The company has also moved the Kerandari Coal Mine in Jharkhand to NTPC Mining Limited with effect from December 1.
Mahindra & Mahindra to take 26 percent stake in Gelos Solren for captive hybrid project
Mahindra & Mahindra has agreed to buy a 26 per cent equity stake in Gelos Solren to support a 100.8 MW captive wind solar hybrid project in Maharashtra. The company will invest Rs 371.42 million, and Gelos Solren will develop a 100.8 MW system that includes 100.8 MW of wind and 50 MW of solar capacity. The power will be supplied to Mahindra & Mahindra and other commercial and industrial users. The Mahindra Group plans to run all businesses on renewable energy by 2030 and will build a 150 MW hybrid project with a cost of about Rs 1,200 crore using 101 MW of wind and 52 MW of solar capacity. The group expects the project to produce about 460 million kWh each year, avoid about 420,000 tonnes of CO2, and support local manufacturing, with commissioning planned within two years.
Waaree to supply 350 MW of modules to AMPIN Energy
Waaree Energies has secured a 350 MW solar module order from AMPIN Energy Transition. The company will supply G12R TOPCon modules for AMPIN projects across India, with deliveries ending by March 2026. This follows an earlier 210 MW order from October 2025. AMPIN CEO Pinaki Bhattacharyya said the modules will support the company’s portfolio growth, while Waaree Executive Director Sunil Rathi said the G12R range is designed for high yield and reliability. The companies said the 350 MWp capacity could avoid about 407,000 tonnes of CO2 a year.
Global
Powertrust and Microsoft partner for distributed solar in Latin America
Powertrust has signed a partnership with Microsoft to enable 270 MW of distributed solar capacity in Mexico and Brazil over four years. Microsoft will buy Renewable Energy Certificates from these installations as part of its plan to become carbon negative by 2030 and reduce Scope 3 emissions.
