On April 14, 2025, the Union Government laid the foundation stone for the Deen Bandhu Chhotu Ram Power Expansion Project in Yamunanagar, Haryana.
The expansion will see the development of an 800 MW unit by Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited (HPGCL) at an estimated cost of Rs 84.7 billion. This project is an extension of the existing 2×300 MW power plant, which was commissioned in 2008.
About 30 per cent of the total cost will be funded by the state government through state plan allocation. The remaining funds will be arranged by HPGCL through a financier.
Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has been involved in the project, and the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) package is valued at Rs 69 billion.
