NTPC Limited has invited Expression of Interest (EOI) bids for partnerships in developing large-capacity pressurized water reactor (PWR) nuclear power plants in India.
The bid, announced on March 26, 2025, aims to indigenize PWR technology and establish reactors of 1,000 MW and above, subject to government approval. The last date for bid submission is May 9, 2025.
The move aligns with India’s goal of achieving 100 GW of nuclear power capacity by 2047 and reducing reliance on fossil fuels. NTPC seeks global partners to assist with PWR technology development, project execution from concept to commissioning, regulatory compliance, and supply chain localization.
The target capacity for the proposed projects is 15 GW, with a ±10% variation. The selected partners will provide proven PWR technology, support reactor operation, and assist in fuel cycle management. Companies with expertise in large-scale nuclear projects are eligible to participate.
EOI responses will be reviewed by NTPC, and a global tender (Request for Proposal – RFP) may follow, subject to government approvals. The project supports India’s energy security and aligns with the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” policy to strengthen domestic capabilities in nuclear power.
