NTPC Limited has invited Expression of Interest (EOI) bids for partnerships in developing large-capacity pressurized water reactor (PWR) nuclear power plants in India.
The bid, announced on March 26, 2025, aims to indigenize PWR technology and establish reactors of 1,000 MW and above, subject to government approval. The last date for bid submission is May 9, 2025.
The move aligns with India’s goal of achieving 100 GW of nuclear power capacity by 2047 and reducing reliance on fossil fuels. NTPC seeks global partners to assist with PWR technology development, project execution from concept to commissioning, regulatory compliance, and supply chain localization.
The target capacity for the proposed projects is 15 GW, with a ±10% variation. The selected partners will provide proven PWR technology, support reactor operation, and assist in fuel cycle management. Companies with expertise in large-scale nuclear projects are eligible to participate.
EOI responses will be reviewed by NTPC, and a global tender (Request for Proposal – RFP) may follow, subject to government approvals. The project supports India’s energy security and aligns with the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” policy to strengthen domestic capabilities in nuclear power.
Author: PPD Team Date: March 24, 2026 India’s coal-fired power stations utilised 307 million tonnes of fly ash in 2024-25, taking the national utilisation rate to 96.34%, up from under 10% in 1996-97. The data comes from the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) report covering 189 grid-connected thermal power plants with a combined capacity of 214 GW. The aggregate figure indicates near-full utilisation. However, performance varies sharply across ownership segments and plant types. Sector-wise gaps and…
Author: PPD Team Date: May 29, 2025 The Delhi government has asked distribution companies (discoms) to gear up for a record peak power demand of 9,000 MW expected this summer. Discoms have been told to act on four fronts: anticipate demand, ensure readiness, secure adequate power supply, and manage faults and redundancy. To meet peak demand, power has been tied up through long-term, medium-term, and short-term purchase agreements based on projected loads. Discoms will also…
